Budget O/U

I'm thinking about adding an O/U to the fold. I have little free money to spend-just bought a Sig P226 and a Ruger P94-so I need help picking a decent budget shotgun. My choices so far are between the Mossberg Silver Reserve and the Spartan Gunworks SPR310. Both are 12 gauge. I have heard decent things about both. I have handled both and I do prefer the feel of the Mossberg as it feels more solid. Is there anything I should know about either? Any choices I am overlooking? My main use for the gun will be skeet. Nothing serious, unless I get hooked... Any input is welcome/appreciated.

Hey there... what was the ballpark pricetag for the two O/U's you just referenced. A budget O/U has been on my mind for a while now.

Since you are concerned about price like I am. I would suggest a Baikal which is the same gun as the spartan but remington imports them now and sells the baikals as spartans with a higher price tag. You can usually find Baikals on www.gunbroker.com. I own a baikal izh94 o/u shotgun/rifle combo and its a great gun. Got it for under 400 bucks. Anyway check it out, you might be able to save some money. :)

When I was a kid a mate of mine had a biakal. Now, normally I am scathing of commie guns, but that Baikal fired thousands, if not tens of thousands of rounds and never missed a beat. ON my last pigeon fest a mate had one that he had hacked a few inches off the barrel and it was a killer- he knocked down maybe 200 birds in three hours. Recommended.

Thanx for the input guys. It's just so hard deciding. And to make matters worse, I went to the gun shop today and I fell in love. She's a CZ 712 auto, and she is pretty darn sexy. I think I might have to hold off a little while on the O/U. I told the guy at the shop my price range and options thus far and he told me to spend the extra little bit of money and get the CZ, he said he has one and it is the nicest shooting shotgun he owns. He said to wait to buy an O/U until I can buy a better one. I kinda agree with him too. It is a much nicer gun in fit and finish than either of the O/U's I looked at. It also has really nice stocks. Thank you guys for the info though. Anyone know anything about the CZ shotguns?

I think the dude from the gun shop was giving you good advice. Good guns do hold their value. I think, however, a lot depends on what you want to do with it. If it will be in the field a lot , its not worth spending top dollar as they do get a bashing.

CZ make good handguns and rifles. They do not for some reason make shotguns. They have them made in Turkey and South America under contract. These guns are mediorce quality, you may get a good one and maybe not. You might also consider that they no longer sell the autos. Parts and service will be a problem in a few years.
