Buckmark Challenger II ?

Is there any difference between current Browning Buckmarks and the older Challenger I, II or III? I like the older ones, but am curious if replacement parts are available for the ones made in the '70's or early '80's. Especially anything that might improve the trigger. Thanks.

Good question. I know a guy that has an unfired Challenger 3 for sale for $500, tempting, but not sure about parts availability or if I can put target grips from a Buckmark on the Challenger.

Parts are available for the original Belgan Challenger as well as the Ii, Iii and Buckmark. Heck, I've used eBay to pick up psrts for a Colt 1903, first series. The grips from the Belgan (first of the series) do not fit the others. The base Belgan gun is essentially part of a trio, including the Nomad and Medalist-- these pistols are parts interchangable.

Ps -- $500 is fine for a clean III.

As bn12gg advised, the "original" trio (Nomad, Challenger and Medalist) were Belgium-made (from around 1963 through 1975; though the Challenger II was made in Salt Lake City from 1975 to 1982). All of these pistols were very similar in design and features, lots of parts as well as their magazines interchange and all had steel frames.

Alloy-framed Challenger III Models and subsequent Buckmark Models are a later, separate tier of pistols and their parts likely won't be the same as the "originals" and their magazines are different.

Quincy -- You can't go wrong with any of the Challenger series, Belgian thru BuckMark. All are essentially a refinement on John Brownings original Colt Woodsman. They are ALL fine shooters that hold value if properly maintained.

So the Challenger 3 and the current Buckmark use the same grips and magazines? That unfired Challenger 3 is getting more tempting :)

Mike38, I posed your question at the Rimfire Central site (an excellent forum for all things rimfire related and more) and was advised that "five minutes with a Dremel tool and buffing wheel" will make any Buckmark magazine fit the Challenger III. Don't know about grip interchangeability (new word?:)).
