Australia's Outback Hero Returns to the Screen
June 18, 2000 4:50 am EST
CANBERRA (Reuters) - Australia's outback hero Crocodile Dundee is set to make a comeback with actor Paul Hogan returning to Australia to make a third movie in the popular series, the Queensland government said on Sunday.
Crocodile Dundee III will be filmed from August at the Movie World Studios on the Gold Coast in Queensland and at other locations in the state before moving to Los Angeles.
It is 14 years since Hogan achieved international stardom with his first portrayal of the laconic bush legend Mick Dundee.
The former Sydney Harbor Bridge painter and comedian went on to make a less successful sequel in 1988, in which New York-based Dundee tackled a gang of South American drug dealers.
Produced and co-written by Hogan, Crocodile Dundee III will again star his wife Linda Kozlowski, whom he met while filming the original, with the new comedy taking Mick Dundee to Hollywood, according to Australian news agency AAP.
The Dundee character was based on Northern Territory bushman Rodney Ansell, who died last year in a shootout with police near Darwin.
