Browning???

I have two new Browning barrels I want to list for sale but have few questions I need answered before I do. I hope somebody can help me here.
First, I have a NIB 20 guage made in Japan 26" 3" magnum
Second I have a NIB 12 guage made in Japan 30" 3" magnum
Both have vent ribs and fixed choke, now my question. How do I determin the chokes on the barrels? The barrels both say Auto-5 special steel, but nothing about the choke.
Where do I find that?

if u have a caliper you could measure the opening at the back of the barrel and then measure the opening at the front end of the barrel. then subtract the two and the amount of constriction is the choke. like .10 is imp cylinder
 
You can't measure the difference very well with a caliper / because the chamber at the back of the barrel is oversized vs the end that is choked.
You really need a barrel "bore" gague - so you can get an accurate measurement inside vs the end that is choked. Some gun clubs have one that they let "members use" ... but if you go out to a club / and somebody is lounging around ...they will probably check it and help you out. It only takes a few minutes.

But those barrels have to be marked somewhere ... Take the barrel off the gun / and you should see some marks on that barrel.

The older brownings use an asterisk (*) or a set of them to determine the choke of the barrel. (one) * is Full, (Two) ** is Modified, and (three) *** is improved cylinder. This marking is usually located on the side of the barrel along the same line as the mfg's name.

'*' designates full choke (F).

'*-' designates improved modified choke (IM).

'**' designates modified choke (M).

'**-' designates improved cylinder choke (IC).

'**$' designates skeet (SK).

'***' designates cylinder bore (CYL).

I suspect Big Jim is on the right track. Of course, if there are no choke markings, at all, then you may have some rare barrels.
 
Rare???

I don't see any anything designating a choke. I'll keep looking. If I find them they will be here for sale. So if any body is interested let me know. Both are new in the box barrels. Both marked Auto 5 3" magnum.
