Browning with BOSS

I am looking at a new rifle in the near future, unfortunately I do not have the space for my reloading equipment where I have moved to. I was thinking that the BOSS would be better for me in 7MM since I can tune the gun to the ammo and the recoil is reduced so i can do long shooting sessions at the range. If anybody has an opinion on whether it is a good idea or not, I would like to hear from you.

I've had experience with two Browning A-Bolts with the Boss, one of which is mine. The Boss works as advertised. I have seen 100 yard 3 inch griups turn to under 1/2 groups with nothing changed but turning the BOSS. Figure you will need 2 boxes of ammo that you like. 1 tosight in and get the BOSS adjusted and one to hunt with. The muzzlebraked version really does reduce recoil. My 10 year old cousins love to shoot my .308 with the muzzle brake on it. It does make the gun a little loader. Wear hearing protection duh! It is nice to shoot and have everyone else down the line stop and look to see what you are shooting because of the boom. Have fun.

I am proud to own a Browning BOSS in .308, I went from "couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with a shotgun", to my all time best group of 1.426" at 200 yards!

Made a believer out of me. Mine loves the 150 gr. Hornady spire point custom ammo.

Oh yeah, and someone will get on here and cry about messing up the "classic lines of the gun" WHATEVER!!!!!!

Classic lines of the gun or venison in the freezer? Hmm tough choice. NOT!

I had a .22-250 heavy barrel varmint with the BOSS muzzlebreak. With factory ammo it was terrific, but with reloads it was hard to test loads and adjust the BOSS at the same time. I sold the guy a few months ago, for no good reason. When the guy came to pick it up, I pulled a target at random from my stack to show him the load I used and how it shot. There was a fourteen-shot group measuring 5/8"! Why did I sell it? :(

The BOSS system works.

I have a 7mm-08 in the hunter with the boss and love it. I can easly keep the 3 shot group in the .25 inch and most 5 shot group are the same. The best group I got was .1 for 3 all at 100yrds. Best shooter I own.

My budy has the 7mag and groups .5 to .75

I have a BAR Safari II in .300 Win Mag. Best group at a hundred yds. was .5 inch. I love that rifle!

30-06 A-bolt stalker in stainless with Boss is one of my two favorite rifles. It IS loud - but it now comes with both muzzle brake Boss and non-muzzle brake Boss for those times when the firing noise of a 50 caliber would be a problem (that's how loud it is.) An afternoon at the range with 50 rounds (reloads) is one of the best stress relievers invented. It is a fun gun to shoot and there's no doubt the rounds will be where you expect them to be once you sight in and practice with it. Good luck.

For varmint shooting and fun at the range the BOSS is a neat gimmick particularly for those who don't reload. It's a tack driving big noise maker for sure.

But for big game hunting, the accuracy improvement isn't all that important. The difference at practical hunting ranges aren't significant. I wouldn't hunt with someone who was using a BOSS equipped rifle unless it is the non-ported version. I value my hearing.

If you want tiny groups on the bench the BOSS is great. If it makes the difference between a successful hunt and failure there are other aspects of your technique that might need work.
