I have a Browning Sweet 16, Belgium Made, with serial #12596.

Matted rib. On barrel is "Browning Arms Company ST LOUIS Mo.

** - Special Steel - 16 Guage - shells

can anybody give me any info on this gun? Value? I think that it has been reblued. Otherwise in great condition.

thanks

Depending on condition, 16 gauge Browning A5 "Sweet Sixteen" shotguns go for $600-$1,000. They feature vent ribs and gold plated triggers.

Note that not all 16 gauge A5 shotguns are "Sweet Sixteen", only the ones that are engraved as such on the left side of the receiver. That is a very low serial number for a "Sweet Sixteen", and may actually be a 2-9/16" chamber 16 gauge shotgun. If so, it is not safe to fire with 2-3/4" 16 gauge shells.

I may have been wrong on the serial number. It has "8S" and then below that is 12596.

I am pretty sure it is marked on the barrel, after the 16 Guage, Shells 2 3/4.

It is marked on the left side of reciever, Sweet 16.

This does not have a vented rib.

The butt plate reads Browning down one side with a FN in the middle.

Those were some nice guns. A friend of mine inherited one, and to him its priceless. I saw a nice one at a show for like a grand.
