Browning Sig Sauer

I recently acquired a interesting 9mm which has Browing on one side of the slide and Sig Sauer on the other. It appears to be a low capacity full size semi auto. Does anyone have any information on model number and performance? It was part of an estate that I purchased (had to take all to get any).
Thanks

It sounds like you have a Browning BDA. It's the same gun as the SIG P220. Browning imported them for while before SIG/Sauer started to bring them in themselves. They were also available in .38 super and .45 acp. Very nice gun.

I forget to mention something about the magazines. I am assuming that your Browning has the heel-type magazine release. At some point in time, SIG switched to a push-button type magazine release for the American market. I have no idea whether or not the magazines are interchangeable between these two types.

Thanks for the information. This one has the mag release at the base of the mag. I have not had a chance to fire it yet but it does balance well. The mag well appears too narrow to handle anything but a single stack mag so I assume it will only hold 9 rounds.

browning used to import the 220 as their larger BDA, as opposed to their smaller BDA (re-named beretta 84, .380acp)

the mag capacity was 9 rounds (9mm and .38 super) or 7 rounds (.45 ) with a heel release.

browning discontinued importation shortly after creating instant collector pieces (the .38 super was the rarest)

sig retained the heel release when they started inporting the 220 themselves until they introduced the "220 american" (1911 style release, .45acp, dovetailed front sight, bobbed hammer) aimed at the law enforcement market.

9mmepiphany,
Any idea how rare the 9mm was and how collectible it might be. I got a Steyr GB (18rd - 9mm), a Glock 17 (18rd-9mm), a ParaOrdnance P13 (13rd -45), and the Browning with the estate. The only one I was really interested in was the ParaOrdnance (I'm a 1911 fan) but thought I might keep one of the 9mm just to say I have one. I liked the Browning but if it is worth collecting vrs using as a shooter, I may wnat to let someone else keep it. I will try and post pictures as soon as I can.
Thanks for the information.

i believe that the most numerous model was the 9mm because it was military issue for the swiss military. i think it replaced the sig 210 as a cheaper production gun. browning was a way around the swiss export regs (much as the german company sauer later became)

you'd have to test the waters, someone might need a 9mm to complete their collection of the 3 calibres. the gun was never that popular so i don't think there are that many around. they were selling for just over $300 !!! when they were closing them out...but that was a long time ago

i sorta liked the way they polished the raised flats on the brownings.

Also, the Browning BDA/Sig-Sauer's were first imported
by Hawes International; way back in about 1975.:)

blades 67 - i thought that the current 220 mags would fit in the old style guns (w/the heel release) since there is nothing to line up?

Gpappy,
In case you don't know, the mags for the Steyr GB if in excellent condition are worth about $150 each. With finish wear you could still get $120 or so. Don't let it go too cheap.

Greg G,
Nope, did not know that. Really don't know too much about the gun other than a dealer told me he would only pay $300 for it with both mags. I do not believe the PO shot it much, it is in excellent condition and it has the original box (pretty beat up but all there). Kind of a nice piece so I figured if it was only worth $300, I would keep it.

Gpappy,
The GB in excellent condition with two mags and box will be worth from $700 to $900 retail. The mags alone are worth $300.
Keep in mind that parts are very hard to find so if it ever needs repair you might have a difficult time.

GregG,
Do you have a GB? If not, how are you so familiar with them? I like the firearm but not that much so this is one I will probably sell. The guy that had these had just moved here from California about a year ago and passed away within a couple of months. Many of the firearms I purchased I had not ever seen and some I had not even heard of. For a State that is so anti firearms, it sure has a bunch of avid collectors!
Regards
Greg

I have three of them with a forth that has been rendered into parts. I was tempted to offer to buy yours but I think I have all I need. ;) If you want to sell it and can't find a local buyer that will give you a fair price, then Email me and we can discuss. I just didn't want somebody to "cut a fat hog" at your expense because you weren't familiar with the pistols. I'm no saint, if we met as strangers at a gun show I might have offered the $300 like the other guy did but you asking for advice here on TFL made me want to give you a heads-up on it.
