I was looking to buy a Browning Semi-Auto, BAR, in 30.06. To my dismay, I found out that they are being assembled in Pourtagual and Japan!!!
Should I be concerned and hunt for a used Beilgian grade BAR, or buy the one that is assembled in another country?

I don't believe the semi-auto BAR has been made in Belgium for AT LEAST 10 years now, perhaps much more.

The Japanese made Brownings are first rate firearms, and are NOT inferior to thier Belgian cousins, at least in overall fit, finish, and performance.

the jap brownings were made using belgium steel on the exact same machinery which was shipped to japan. i haven't found anything the japs can't build better than the rest of the world IF they put their minds to it. japan got a rap for low quality stuff after wwii but i think that was a long time ago

here comes da heat.......

Not from here. Methinks the quality/longevity of some of the Japanese auto imports a couple or three decades ago stimulated the Big 3 here to have to get their act together. Certainly possible in the gun biz too ...

I've got one in .338 Win. Mag. and it's one of the finest, most accurate hunting rifles I'vew ever owned. It's a helluva better quaity quality than a Remmy 700 or a Ruger.
