Browning question

Hello, new guy here. I've just acquired an older Browning 16 GA pump shotgun. It is marked "Browning Patient 16 GA proof tested" on the barrel and " RANGER REPEATING SHOTGUN" on the left side. #52xxx behind the trigger guard followed by a lone "B".

Can anyone tell me anything about this gun and when it was made?

Can I take a stab in the dark? My guess is a Stevens gun made for Sears (Ranger).

Does it look like this one for sale on www.codela.com ?

"9327. STEVENS - BROWNING PATENT PUMP SHOTGUN. Made by Stevens under earlier Browning Pump patents. S/N# U2238x. This gun is marked only "BROWNING PATENT - 12 GAUGE PROOF-TESTED" on the left side of 32" Full Choke barrel. Likely made for private label sale by Sears or Western Auto or Montgomery Ward. The Stevens version of this gun is the Model 520. Classic "Humpback" Browning design includes front of trigger safety and the A-5 receiver look. 14" LOP to factory butt plate. Hand checkered pistol grip stock and for-end with oil-finished fancy wood. This gun was made by Stevens from 1912 to 1932. Shoots 2-3/4" shells. Finish is about 80% and the gun is working perfectly. Fun, almost antique duck, goose and buckshot deer gun. VG. 125.00."

I picked up one of those this Summer. Great gun. If you look over in THR's Harley Nolden's Institute For Firearms Research threads for June 2006, you will find a couple of threads on that one. I have the manual, if you need it, or jagermiester will send it.

This was in one of the threads:
"The Model 520 was made from 1915 to 1930, and during that time was also sold by Sears as their Model 31 "Ranger." The gun was designed by John Moses Browning and many Model 520 barrels have a marking that includes the words "Browning's Patent," a cause of some confusion. The Stevens Model 620 and Model 621, made fron 1927 to 1953 are similar mechanically, and some of the takedown procedures may be applied."

Enjoy. :D
