Browning "Practical" Hi-Power - I give up, pray for FN

I've decided to stop looking - of the 5 distributors that I've called, none of them have one. So, I'll wait for FN to start bringing them into the country, and hope for the best....

Spark: I too have been thinking about a Browning. I got (belatedly!) the word here on this site that they are no longer imported. Rats. Maybe again someday, eh?

Trevor - thanks for the lead, but even though I want one, I don't want one so bad that I'm going to pay through the nose - so I appreciate your being up front with me that the dealer was high priced, you saved me a phone call.

I guess I'll just have to become more proficient with my other firearms for now... oh darn! :D

The neighborhood gun store has a mkIII in stock. I forget the price, but it was well under $600. That help?

SPARK--

you don't specify which caliber you want. I know where there are two Practical models for sale, as of Wednesday afternoon, but both are .40. One has an extra barrel in .357 SiG--after market, needless to say, but custom fitted and QUITE accurate. I'd say both pistols are quite reasonably priced, but not cheap.

E-mail me if interested.

You might want to get that Practical model now. Because according to FN, only the MKIII will be imported. Below is a copy of the email sent to me from FN:

Dear Mr. XXXX,

Thank you for your e-mail concerning the Hi-power pistol. We plan to import
a quantity of the FN produced pistols in the Mark III variety. They will have the military finish. We expect the first delivery of 9mm by the end of
the year. Some 40 S&W pistols will be imported sometime next year. At the
present time our distribution is primarily law enforcement focused.
However, several of our distributors also have non-law enforcement
components to their business. At the appropriate time you could have your
dealer contact one of the following distributors:

I hope this information is helpful.

Best regards,

Spark.... A local gun shop has a 9mm Practical, used for 4 something. I can't remember much about it. But e-mail me if you are interested and I will check. Shoot Safe....CO

Spark,

I know your frustration. I, too, am interested in the 9mm HighPowers. I bought two HighPowers back in January of this year. One was a MarkIII for my stepson, the other was a Standard to keep NIB.

Last week I decided to buy another HighPower. (A shooter for my wife -- she thinks the HiPower is s-o-o-o sexy.) I found a dealer with two 9mm HighPower Standard models. Since I was looking for a Practical, I didn't pay too much attention, but I think the dealer had one on display. However, I don't know the caliber.

I'm not sure where you are located, but the dealer is Nagel's in San Antonio, TX.

:)Here's a NIB 9mm Hi Power Practical (like mine) on GunBroker.com, buy it and have it sent to your local FFL. I've done that several times with my guy. At first he charged me $20 for the transaction, now since I've gotten to know him he doesn't even charge me any more.

Anybody know who sells a .357 SIG conversion barrel for a .40S&W Hi Power?
