Browning medallion pistol

I recently purchased a browning semi auto pistol at auction. It is stamped made in Belgium on one side and stamped medallion on the other side. It is not a medalist. The only info I have found pertaining to medallion are the Browning rifles that carry that designation. The gun appears to be a challenger but it is stamped medallion. Any info would be appreciated.......live long and prosper

Is your pistol a .22 (you said it isn't a Medalist which leads me to think that you have a .22)? If so, what model is it (i.e., Challenger-Buckmark-Nomad etc.)?

Yes it is a .22 I also posed the same question to the Browning collecters group. According to them, going off the serial number the gun is a challenger made in 1968. They requested I send them a photo of the gun showing the medallion stamp. They are puzzled as well as I am.

None of my research sources describes the pistol you have. I will pose your question at the Rimfire Central site (if you haven't already) to see if any of those knowledgeable Browning aficionados have any insights/answers.

Sorry, nothing from Rimfire Central yet. Your pistol appears to be a rare bird, indeed. A poster there would like to know more about the Browning Collectors group you referenced. Can you give me the website, etc.? Thanks.

No listing of a "Medallion" in the Blue Book, could not find one in 60s-70s Shooter's Bible or Gun Digest.

Nomad, Challenger, and Medallist. No Medallion.

In the absence of information, we can only guess. A friend thinks it possible that "Medallion" was the name Browning used on that model marketed outside the US.

He bases this guess on the known fact that some Browning models were sold under different names in different countries.

Computer searches give me the header Browning Medallion .22 Pistol, then take me to the Medallion RIFLE...
information super highway my a..left foot!:rolleyes:

I'm wondering if it's an old Challenger that was sold in Europe as a Medallion. Mind you, 'Medallion' is a Browning product name for stuff other than firearms too. They make a Custom Collection gun safe with that name.
