Browning Hi Power

I purchased a Browning Hi Power with a lanyard ring and I am wondering how hard it is to take it off? Maybe it just has to be screwed off?

Drill it out. IIRC it should be press fit and then peened. They come out quickly and easily. There is nothing rare about a BHP with a lanyard ring in it. Hundreds of thousands of contract BHP/FNs have had lanyard loops. You see them in the surplus market all the time. They make it a pain to replace the grips because very few current aftermarket grips makers do lanyard cuts.

Leave it on and file a notch if you need new grips...or get yourself a Limey holster and lanyard ...connect to the pistol ring and never worry about the bad guys stealing your pistol again.

Some screw out and others are riveted in. Your pistol, but there really is no pressing need to remove it. I shoot my HPs lefty and the ring is not a problem.

The vast majority of them are riveted in. You just grind away the inside of the rivet or drill the rivet out. Pretty simple. If screwed in, then get some vice grips or other tool to unscrew it. You will be able to tell if you drop the magazine and remove the grips so that you can get a good view of the inside. I personally have no use for the lanyard stud, but apparently some do!

I removed mine so I could put the grips I wanted without having to cut the grips. The lanyard loop really reduces your choices. I know people modify the grips but it is much easier to replace the lanyard ring if you ever want to then replacing the ring. IMHO

Ring

So for I have left it on but I have ordered wrap around grips. Also ordered replacement grips but the longer safety lever prevented the pistol from firing until I cut those grips on the left side. The replacement grips were made for the short safety lever pistols. The replacement grips did have the cut out for the lanyard ring though.

At the end of the day, it's your gun. Remove it if you want to, there's nothing stopping you.
However - it will affect the value if you care about such things.

It will not negatively effect the value of the gun. It is absurd when people say things like that. 99% of the time on a surplus shooter it makes no difference when it comes to value.

If it is an all matching collectable that is going to be a safe queen then leave it otherwise do whatever soots you.
