Browning Hi-Power Practical ?

Hiyas,

It is my understanding that the Browning Hi-Power will no longer be made. I have been trying to sell my Browning Hi-Power Practical 9mm (700 rounds through it) for the past couple of weeks to no avail. I figured the gun would sell super quick? Is the market in a lull or are Browning Hi-Powers just not as popular and respected as I thought? The price was super fair at $515 shipping included!

Hello Nimitz; Not trying to burst your bubble, but in October of 98 I bought
a Browning Practical 9m/m NIB for the
amazing sum of $399.88. Keep in mind
that the dealer had just quoted me a
price of $509.95 over the phone. So
in respect, I think I got one helle'va
deal. As a matter of fact, it's the
best darn deal I've ever gotten in
the firearms trade!!!

Is your's the fix sighted version; or
does it have adjustable sight's? Also,
what is so terribly wrong with the gun
that you want to get rid of it?

Best Wishes,

My understanding is that the BHP will not be manufactured in 2000. It seems production over the last couple of years out did sales.

At this years SHOT Show Browning was saying that the BHP was not discontinued, they were just going to fill orders with current inventory. Regular production will continue next year.

Just bought a BHP Practical in .40 S&W cal. for $425 in LNIB two days ago. It has hard chrome frame, fixed sight, 2 mags, and a box of 20 rnds. hollowpoint. The sales clerk told me that it was only fired less than 50 rounds by the previous owner. That pistol sat in the gun shop for almost a month. It also made me wonder if the demand is low for the BHP.

I am only wanting to move the Hi-Power to get a more concealable pistol - and I just cannot afford two guns right now. I have a wedding to save for in August! :) In any event, I really would have thought that BHP's would hold their value and resale ... but maybe I am mistaken. Oh well, patience is a virtue. :)

I just paid $549 for my practical model with adjustable sights. This is the second Hi Power in my life time and as far as I'm concerned, its the best 550 I've spent in years. This one won't get away like the last one did!

For even a lot of smaller built/statured people I know the BHP is a very concealable gun. Seems like you've already got a nice one for carry now. Maybe you just need the proper holster and belt for your proportions/comfort as opposed to a different gun?

As far as the demand for BHP's I think it is that a lot of people seem to want "What the cops are carrying". Not many cops carry BHP's nowadays. Their loss is your gain!! :)

I would hang onto the Hi-Power and let the "lull" run it's course. It was my first larger caliber (.40) gun ever purchased and one that I don't regret. One common thread that I've found among firearm owners is that those who've sold their BHPs REGRET that day.

I believe that Kennedy is right in his reasoning about people want what the cops are carrying. You can also follow that trend in the movies. And their loss IS your gain.

The only drawback that I can find with my HP is it's weight. Very heavy to tote around all day. Especially when you weigh 140 lbs. like I do.

About the rumored discontinued HiPower:

I had heard the same and contacted Browning and asked them about the rumor. Based on their response, I hope to see more HiPowers this year. Here is their Jan 24, 2000, response:

quote:
We appreciate you taking time to write our company. We are striving to answer our e-mail as quickly as possible and we appreciate your patience in getting a response from Browning.

Recently there have been rumors that Browning was getting out of the handgun business. To clear up the confusion here is the information as we know it. Browning will continue to market the Browning Hi-Power for the year 2000. Browning will continue to market its Buck Mark line of .22 caliber semi-auto pistols.[/quote]
