Browning Hi-Power Availability

I deal with a gun store that has tons of guns in stock including lots of "hard to gets" and "limited editions." He usually has no trouble getting anything for me within a few days, and that's if he doesn't already have it in stock, which he usually does. He said that all his suppliers and distributors don't have any Browning Hi-Powers. I want a basic Standard, polished blue, fixed sight, walnut gripped, 9mm. I would probably settle for a Mark III with matte finish and plastic grips. But he says that he can't get either one. I checked another smaller store with the same result. Does anybody know of any distributors that have some in stock that I could tell my dealer to check?

Browning began delivering HP's in quantity back in August. Maybe they are out of this run already, I don't know, you would have to contact them to ask. If the HP does not have to be a Browning I have also seen the FN marked versions at gun shows lately so you my try them. It is the exact same gun only marked with the manufacturers name rather than a Browning stamp.

Coltdriver, Jeff - tsk, tsk, tsk,.....

You meant to tell him to try the TFL gunshow listings, right?;) :D

(BTW - there really are 2 or 3 listed now, still for sale)

Question: how does the Browning Hi-Power compare with, say, the Beretta 92FS in terms of accuracy, reliability, usability?

Sundance, funny thing, I hadn't seen any NIB BHP's on my dealer's shelf in the Hartford, CT. area, and today there were two: a two-tone, and a std. with adjustable sights. Call Hoffman's Gun Center @ (860) 666-8827. Or, for some used BHP's, call Newington Gun @ (860) 667-2658. Also, check GunsAmerica.com or Gunbroker.com. They're out there.

longeyes, what you ask will be largely a function of an individual pistol, BUT I would rate the BHP tops for accuracy in an out of the box gun, reliability would go to the Beretta, and for 'usability' let's just say that I own 3 BHP's and 0 Berettas. I do not like the way a Beretta feels in my hand, the BHP has one of the best grips out there.

Sundance, be sure to check the TFL Handguns for sale listings, you just might find what you are looking for. ;)
