I recently acquired a Browning BLR lever-rifle in .308 Wincheter. The gun was made in 1971, and was made in Belgium. From what I understand, the BLR's were only made in Belgium from 1969-1972, and there after were all "Japan" guns. The rifle is in very good condition, easily around 90-92%. What is the estimated value of the gun?

Jason280, a Browning BLR Belgian in the condition you've described could be worth about $370-$400. Hope this helps!

Belgium Browning BLR

My understanding is that Belgium made gun were made there only one year, and the value of my .243 is about $500. Is this so? or am I out to lunch!

My BLR

I also have a Browning BLR in 308 that was a gift from my dad. This gun is Belgian Made, serial 01077 X70 and has NEVER been fired! Just took it out of the box to zero it. Anyone have an idea what this is worth or where I can get an honest appraisal. This gun is essentially Brand new. I've had co-workers offer up to $1000 for it.

OK...a gun is worth only what the market will bear...steel belgian BLRs do carry a premium ...for used examples, they are worth approximately $450. New unfired ones should bring $150-200 more

This is a 20+ year old gun, new condition. I can't believe that it might be worth only $600-650 dollars. This is brand new condition still in the original box.

Dont beleive me? Check on BLRs on auction then...watch em sit there at $800

Worth is a relative concept...essentially its what people are willing to pay for something..the number of people who are willing to pay a a high premium for a NIB belgian BLR are limited to probably Browning collectors.....you may be able to squeeze $800 out for it, but essentially, you are gonna be dusting it off for a long while...

Now if you really want to sell it your gonna have to auction it off, then you are not necessarily (i could be wrong) gonna get what you think its worth. the last Belgian BLR I had, 85% or so, sold for $435 I think at auction, and I generally get top dollar...

Essentially you might get $100 over what a new model would cost

Its just not that desireable a rifle except to a certain limited crowd.

Wildalaska's value estimate sounds reasonable. The BLR is a good rifle, but it's not rare. It is accurate, reliable, and safe. I have used a .243 BLR to take a couple of deer.

I have sold several BLRs online and it does not make that much difference as to whether they are Belgian made or Jap in selling value. top price I got was $500.00. the .308, .243 and .358 are a little more sought out in the BLRs and with hunting season fast approaching you have a better chance of selling more quickly but only in this price range. like Wild said there are a lot of those guns that sit online for auction with no bids. check out these sites gunbroker.com, auctionarms.com, gunsamerica.com. you might try listing in local paper as Fall aproaches.

ok i know this sounds a little high but my dad was showing me his the other day and said that in 1985 he turned down $2000 and now it would be worth almost $5000 but his has the engravings along the sides

If anyone has a BLR in .308, no matter where it was made, even if it has never been shot...should keep it and shoot it!
That's a gem of a rifle in a great caliber/cartridge.
