I just acquired a slightly used stainless finish Browning BLR Lightweight 81 in .308 Winchester with the straight grey laminated wood stock. Mine is the non take down model. Paid $650 for it....

Pretty much an amazing lightweight rifle. Yeah, capacity isn't as high as my other lever actions but it is equal to my other bolt guns. Five rounds total (4+1) with a detachable box mag. The rack and pinion system is amazingly smooth and the iron sights are very useful. All in all Browning makes an impressive rifle to rival the modern bolt guns. Can't wait to take this puppy out and bag a pig or two with it.

+1 on your comments on the BLR. And congratulations. I've had one for several years (blued with walnut stock, also the non-takedown model 81 LT WT .308) and love it. I'm always a little surprised there aren't more BLR comments on these blogs, since the Browning action is very strong and it shoots with the accuracy and balance of a bolt gun. Its a classic work horse rifle. Happy shooting.

I have a pre-81 BLR that I've owned since 1986. It shoots like a dream. I had a scope on it for one season but it really ruined the lines and the balance of the gun so I went back to iron sights. It has accounted for at least 25 whitetails.

browing blr 2007 special edition w/ camo stock

I just brought this blr on line (358win) it has the rear sight moved up on the barell about 3 inches from the two hole for a rear sight on a regular blr. My question is, are they factory holes. has any one seen a blr with two sets of hole for the rear sight. thanks for the help. ron e

Congrats on the .358, neat cartridge.

Seems like I read that a version of the BLR was set up/tapped, to allow a scout scope (forward mounted scope) ala Jeff Coopers theme.

If so, I have no idea regards mounts, or supplier.

I have always wanted a blued, early BLR in .308.

I have a Belgium made BLR purchased new in 1973. Killed many a deer and elk with it and still one of my favorite rifles. Have a Zeiss 4x32 mounted on it and just perfect.

You need to clean it from the muzzle and would recommend using a coated rod with a rod guide.
