Browning barrel questions

Hello to all,
I am a new member looking for some help. I have browning A5 barrel issues. I have an older browning A5 12 ga that I would like to do some barrel work on. My desired end result would be a 25 inch vent rib w/ modified choke. I mistakenly bought a Belgin barrel thinking it would fit my gun, only to find out that my browning is old enough that it uses the Remington model 11 type barrels. So I have a barrel I can not use. I've been told that the extentions are exchangable??? I can not find a gunsmith in my area (port.Or) that seems to know anything about it.
Can I swap them??? I would assume they are threaded??? I always have more time than I do money, and I love to tinker. Can I do this myself??? Any advise???
Also I have noticed the loop under the barrel is a different width.
Would like to here from anyone with some good advise.............thanks
If push comes to shove I would like to shorten my barrel at the very least
what happens if I just cut it off???

Fitting a Browning barrel to a Remington Model 11 is a major feat unless you are intimately familiar with how the Browning design times the barrel release, shell carrier actuation, and the bolt release.

If you just cut off the Remington barrel, you will have a barrel with no choke. Your only options at that point would be backboring or adjustable chokes. The Remington barrels are very hard and not really suitable to flaring and fitting of a screw-in choke, although the ultra-thin Briley chokes might be fitted. Call Briley before doing anything drastic.
 
Maybe Scorch and I are thinking the same thing, but I doubt that your "older" Browning uses a Remmy mod 11 barrel. How "older" is older? I have an A-5 that's 48-yrs-old. I'd always heard that Browning barrels had to be fitted...until somebody who actually knew something sold me a new, Invector barrel for my old Browning. I guess my Invector barrel was made in Japan...haven't even looked to see...but it sure fits my old A-5 just fine, with no fitting. I chose a 22" Invector barrel to replace the 26" skeet-bore barrel that came with the old A-5.
 
From about 1903 to 1910, and again from about 1940 to 1950 (due to WWII), Browning shotguns were actually Remington Model 11s with a better finish. Remington made them slightly differently than FN, even though they are the "same" shotgun. The timing grooves on n the barrel extension in a Remington-made Browning A5 or Remington Model 11 are slightly different than those on a FN-made Browning A5.

Timing grooves are what i think I am seeing. My Browning has one grove,
remington 11's have one groove. As my gun is a remington made browning, I assumed they are the same. if you go to gunbroker.com and look at Item number 111954718, that is a rem barrel and mine looks just like it.
What is a good source for dating info on browning shotguns? I'm still thinking I could unscrew the extentions and swap them????
