Browning BAR Buffer?

Hello again, with another Browning BAR question!

The small plastic buffer plate in the recoil mechanism has degraded and fallen apart. I see that the part is inexpensive and readily available, but to replace it, you have to remove the recoil spring guide.

Any idea how to do that?
