Browning Auto Serial Number

I have a Browning semiauto .22 rifle on which I have been unable to find a serial number. It does say Made in Japan, but nowhere can I find anything that looks like a serial number, and I see no evidence that a serial number has been filed off. I have seen pictures of these rifles on Gunbroker with a serial number on the right side of the receiver, but there is no number there on mine. Any ideas?

The serial number is on the right side of the receiver above the trigger.

All guns manufactured after the Gun Control law of 1968 must have a serial number. Since Browning started Japanese manufacturing in 1974, a genuine Browning will have one, unless you have an old Belgium receiver (pre-1955) with a Japanese barrel. That's the best I can do.

It could be. There is no indication that a serial number has ever been on the right side of the receiver. Thanks for your response.
