Browning and Remington

Mad Man

I am planning on buying a bolt action .308 rifle, mainly for informal long range target shooting.

I was thinking of a Remington 700 PSS; my rationale being that if Remingtons are good enough for military and law enforcement snipers, then they are more than good enough for someone like me. My local gun dealer/friend (he is a former Recon Marine)caters mainly to law-enforcement, so I'm somewhat familiar with LE and military type weapons, but woefully ignorant about hunting rifles (and bolt-action rifles in general).

A few days ago, I came across a very good deal on a Browning A-Bolt stainless stalker w/BOSS. It's a used, but very clean, gun.

Has anybody heard any good or bad things, or have had any good or bad experiences, with Browning rifles?

I'm sure I can't shoot as well as either rifle is capable of and -- barring Red Dawn/New World Order/Unintended Consequences/Lucifer's Hammer/Los Angeles riots/etc. type scenarios -- will never subject the rifle to any type of field condtions, nor depend on the rifle for survival (I have enough military-style semi-autos for that).

Does anyone know if the Browning is as accurate and/or rugged as the Remington?

If so, I'm curious why it's not employed as a sniper rifle by more agencies.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much in advance.

I have a Browning A-Bolt 2 with BOSS....I shoot Federal Match BTHP 168gr I have a Simmons 4x24x20mm scope on it and can get on average 4 out of 5 center shots with the 5th not far away from the others @ 300yds. I really don't understand MOA standards but if you put 4 quarters in a square formation that would be my group. To me this is very good due to I never plan on shooting someone with a hostage. I have had my rifle for about 4 yrs never had a problem with it except for a bad mag I purchased but I sent it to Browning and they replaced it for me free of charge...
