Browning A-Bolt

I hope you guys don't get tired of me chewing the fat about possible gun purchases. Here's a deal I found in the local trading paper. Browning A-Bolt 7mm mag synthetic stock for $400 (after I bargained) or trade for previously mentioned new Savage 7mm-08 youth packages. Seller says gun is used in good condition with some sorry see-thru quik mounts on it.

I've owned a few A-bolts in my life. All were good guns as any Browning usually is but, they weren't exceptional guns. Most would group about 1.25" at 100 yds with one, a .280" grouping 1". Not bad but, not exceptional IMO. I know guys that swear by them and love them but for the money I still think the Savage has them beat. However $400.00 isn't a bad price at all.

I don't want to waste my time on another 1-1/2" or worse rifle. I'm trying to get an old Rem. Model 78 06 to shoot consistently under 1-1/2" I just like to go hunting with a gun I can trust. If I miss a shot, I want to know it was my fault. My Ruger 22-250 shoots all day under .5 and my Remington Classic .350 put them in the same hole consistently. I'm not a great hunter or gunsmith, I just like having the confidence that a gun is harmonically balanced enough to cover a true 100 yd. target with a 50cent piece. I'll probably not get the Browning since I'm pretty well tapped out for gun purchases this year. My wife cannot understand why one gun won't suffice. Darn, everything else I buy is worthless before I get it out of the store with this "funny" money the guv give us.
