Browning 9mmP, Belgium

It looks like the top pic, except no hole in the hammer, rear site is adjustable and there is the number 3 stamped on the front of the trigger guard.
Thanks for your help with this.

Sounds like a Browning Hi Power but hard to say without a pic.
Does it look more like this... If it does it a Browning Hi Power with and adjustable rear sight, referred to as a "beer can sight".

If you post the serial number we can tell you when it was made.

That is it except the trigger guard # is 3. Serial # 75C53779 (hidden under Pachmayr grip)
Thanks again for your help.

A 1975 C Series Browning Hi Power is what you have. It was known as the sports model IIRC and it does in fact have the "beer can" sights as I expected.

You have a very nice pistol, depending on its actual condition. I am not a big fan of the "beer can" sights because they did not always hold their Zero but many people liked them then and like them today.

The "3" on the trigger guard is IIRC an inspection mark.

Now I Know

Thanks for your help with this, I never would have guessed '75.
Looks in great shape to bad it didn't come with stock grips.
Can't wait to put that "beer can site" on some targets.
Now if I can just git this pic to post!
1 hr later tada or should I say tatas!

Nice gun. Looks to be in good shape. I would recommend taking the pachmayr grips off the gun and inspect the frame underneath. I have see lots of them with rust under those rubber grips. Oil as needed...

Don't worry about not having the factory grips. IMHO the BHP factory wood grips are not that great. They are too thick. They look nice but are the best shooting grips for the BHP.

Enjoy the gun post a pic of your targets from the range session and tell us how you liked it.

Is this a new to you gun?

PS Welcome to TFL

Yes it is.I will post as soon as I find some 9mm ammo. I hope no one is offended by my back drop, my sweet wife's taste in home furnishings is rather eclectic.
Lucky me!
How rite you are. Had to pull the grips to find the serial# and did oil.

Looks like a fine gun. Hi Powers of that vintage come with a humped feed ramp that may or may not feed hollow points reliably. I had the same basic pistol, beer can sights and all, but made in 1979. It had the humped feed ramp, but I never had a problem with it and hollow points. You need to shoot it to be sure, of course. Congratulations on acquiring one of the finest 9mm pistols ever made.

I suspect a lot of the folks here are like me, they didn't even notice the backdrop for looking at the gun. But maybe the younger guys did. :D

Funny, though, because my wife and I are what most people would call conservative. A few years ago, we bought a large female nude photo at an art show (couldn't tell it was a nude except on close inspection) and hung it. It embarrassed our then-teen girls and we had to move it to a less conspicuous location.
