I just aquired a Browning 1885 in 45/70. I was wondering how much it is worth and what you think of them if you have or had one. I'm probably going to try it out this hunting season.

I've been wanting one of those for years, just can't afford them. Last one I saw was at a gun show, NIB unfired. Asking price was $800. I didn't have it. :(

TFL's official "Curmudgeon Member" and damned proud of it!

I am in the same position as Grayfox, always looking but not quite buying. They seem so nice. If you try it out, give us a report on the experience.

I can't comment on the value, but I have one and I love it. I've actually considered deer hunting with it, but haven't done so yet. Maybe someday.

For a wonderful practice load you can shoot all day and not get tired, use the 300-grain bullet. Very mild, and with a relatively flat trajectory (well, flat considering that it's a .45-70).
