Brought home a beautiful SA last Saturday

While at the last weekend's local gunshow, I came across this Ruger Blackhawk 357 magnum. The same dealer had a WWII P38 I wanted so I got the pair for the package deal. Its from 1968 per SN. Its unconverted with the original black eagle grips. It is an old model, but also not a flat top. It has the raised ears on the top of the frame. Its also a pre warning. I know some of you don't understand, but I dislike the warning and the conversion. With common sense, there are no accidents with this design.

Many of you know me as a S&W guy but I really appreciate these old Rugers as well. They are well crafted and the two I have also have great triggers. The story of Ruger is very American in its origins, a quality product with a competitive price. While I might not be into all of their modern offerings, I certainly like their older revolvers. This Blackhawk has the uncommon 4 5/8 barrel as well. Now if I only had any of the single sixes I used to own...oh well, I will find another someday...

Makes for a good pair with my old model 41 magnum blackhawk. Also unconverted. That 41 dates to 1965

Nice find 73. I've loved these for 35 years as a friend loaned me a well worn one for plinking in the woods. I have one as a safe queen, another converted to .44S by David Clements, and two in .41... a "worked over shooter", and the one below from auction......all with the 4 5/8" tubes.

P38?

I realize this is a revolver forum, but why didn't you include the P38 in one of the photos also? Fine looking Blackhawks you have there. I have always liked the Ruger SA, but just now ordered my first one, a 5.5" Convertible 45Colt/45acp. I prefer the looks of blue instead of stainless. There weren't that many stainless guns back in the "Old West". The SA conjures up images of the "Old West" for me.

Sweet,
I think you’re right on about the conversion and what around here we call Rugers with the Gettysburg address on the barrels.
It was a sad day when Lawyers took over design of pistols.
As far as being an S&W guy, any one worth there salt that collets S&W’s would own numerous Rugers, numerous Colts, Glocks, Berettas, Walthers, Sigs. We need something to break us away from the N frame addiction.

Oz, some of us will own most any and everything we feel will reliably go BANG, despite the fact we have our favorites. Personally, I like most anything in .44s and a BHP format always gets my interest up.

If owning that Ruger pains you so, I think I could scrape up an old Smith to swap you for it, just to ease your pain, as it were.

That gun really looks pristine!

Love those short barrel Blackhawks. Here's my unconverted 6 1/2" I bought new in 1968 (serial #122***) with the San Antonio Leather rig for $80:
