Broken P32 slide

While shooting my new P-32, the slide cracked right in front of the feeding area. I suspect a bullet did not feed properly, and the upward force of the angled round was sufficient to break it. Has this problem occurred to any of you P32 owners? Many of you have mentioned Kel Tec's good customer service, but I'm wondering whether they would send me a new slide without my having to UPS the gun to FL. I suppose I'll have to ship the whole gun to them. I was also getting many failure to fires using Magtech ammo. By this, I mean many rounds had light, off center strikes to the primer, though they would usually go off the second time around. Anyone else experienced this problem with Magtech ammo? I'm just trying to determine whether this gun is a lemon, although I suppose a new slide will help. Thanks for your input.
 
So far, my failure-to-fire rate, and the rate of type 3 malfunctions is right at 1 each per 50 rounds. Same thing - light strikes.

Edit: that's with Fiocchi 73 gr. FMJ.

My early SN has been very reliable for 1,200 rounds at which point the slide cracked on the left of the ejection port. The gun still functioned but I sent it in and hope to get a chromed slide shortly.

Do you remember the type and brand of ammunition you were using when your slide cracked? Any thoughts on why the crack happened? Maybe there was a sub-surface crack in the slide all along and it became visible after 1200 rounds.

chrome is MUCH more rust resistant than blue (and more attractive).
you can send your slide regular mail vs. UPS. no need to send the entire pistol. the slide does not have a serial number and therefore can be sent regular mail. folks send their blue slides in all the time (like me) that way. may take 3-5 weeks to get back depending on when they get their batches of chrome parts from the company that chromes for them.
send your slide to them, they will replace it. ask for a chrome, since yours broke, maybe they will upgrade for free. give them your phone # & e-mail in case they need to contact you. if they charge you for chrome, it will be $20, a bargain.
may as well send in your barrel, assembly pin and magazine catch as these are all included in the $20 charge. all of these parts come in chrome.
order any extra magazines, accessories & spare parts while you're at it as they pay return shipping.
a new slide may fix your light strike problem also. i've had a few with sellier & bellot ammo. the "tek werks" link at the kel-tecs owners group web site has a fix for light strikes. www.ktog.org

I normally use Fiocchi ball but was using up some FN ammo when the break has occured. My batch of FN is not very good for the P32 (hard primers too big to be cycled through the ejection port unfired) but it is also weak so I am not sure what caused the break.
