Broken G17!

Yes, my beloved Glock 17 has a broken stiker and stirker breechface opening. Glock GA is fixing it for FREE. Talk about great service. :D

G17 3rd gen, and I did do a lot of dry-firing, without snap caps. Big mistake, but Glock GA is going to fix it for free. Thank God!

More proof that "Perfection" is just marketing speak. Glocks can fail or break like any other man-made device.

I do have to say that this is an uncommon failure. I've seen numerous Glock parts failures but I don't think I've ever seen this one. Good that Glock is fixing it for you.

Strange break for sure, how did you find out it was broken? Go to the range and click?

I have a G23 I bought used and when I was swapping out a few parts I found the locking block broken in half, could not even tell it was broken when it was in the gun. I was glad I was upgrading a few parts before I took it out to the range.

My only broken Glock part was a recoil rod that I broke when I put it together incorrectly ... But I have an older generation and I think they use metal for that part now. I just bought a few extra just in case ... Never had a striker break though!

I've seen pictures of a cracked breech face (on the extractor side, right OP?) as a result of dry firing with no snap cap. It's a huge pain to use snapcaps in a Glock though so... I just don't practice with mine and instead hope my fundamental technique as developed on an SA/DA applies. I find it does.

To reset my striker I have to extract a snap cap, pick up my snap cap, and reload my magazine with snap caps. I only got one pack of 5 so that's on me but I don't like having to "police my brass" just to dryfire, even if I had 18 caps.

You don't have to fully extract the snap cap to reset the striker. You only have to retract the slide slightly.

Seriously! The Glock "Perfection" thing has gone way too far! lol, people invest so much into that brand because of pure hype. Kudos to Glock for making that one stick.

I've also seen my fair share of Glock failures. Nothing comes close to that of XDs.
