Broken Extractor!

Also posted this on the 1911 forum but posting here for greater exposure. I'm short a gun and waiting on input before I order the part to get her up and running again. I can't believe she's gone :(.

Went to the range yesterday to put some more rounds through my recently purchased New-Rollmarked Commander (S/N: CJ29xxx). Prior to this trip I had only fired about 150-200 rounds
through this pistol with only one failure to go fully into battery on the second magazine put through the gun (I attributed this to a tightly fitted, new pistol). This trip I fired two magazines, reloaded, and fired one more round which failed to extract. This was very unusual for this pistol so I immediately dropped the magazine and cleared the fired case (fell out on it's own, not stuck in the chamber) and began to check out the pistol. The hook had sheered off the extractor! Now I had heard of this with some of the other new-rollmarked guns, but this is only supposed to happen to the other guys, right? I guess until I get a new extractor ordered, I'll just sit here and admire my new, beautiful,
elegant, single shot pistol :( I'll be ordering a wilson extractor but am uncertain which is the way to go. Wilson has both their series 101 Combat extractor and their series 415 "bulletproof"
extractor available for the 80 series Colts. What do you folks recomend and why?

Thanks for being a shoulder to cry on!

Coffee:( :(

GET the Wilson Bulletproof extractor (415). It has a lifetime guarantee and it holds it's tension once set. You won't be sorry.
All of the 1911s I purchase get a Wilson Bulletproof extractor even though it doesn't need a new one. Just some insurance for my well-being. :p

The wilson bulletproof extractor is very good as is the Caspian extractor. No extractor is set up correctly from the factory so you'll need to adjust the tension in it before using it.

Coffee357,
What ammo were you using? I know of one case where the extractor hook sheared off on a Commander when it was used with GI steel cased hadrball.

Thanks for the help! Penman, I have run probably about an even
mix of Speer Lawman brass case FMJ and UMC FMJ brass case
through the pistol along with a handful of Winchester White box
230 grain JHP. Does anyone know what's special about the
"bulletproof" material they use in the extractor of the same name?

Thanks,

Coffee

If you *really* want a virtually impossible-to-kill extractor for a 1911 you might want an AFTEC installed... it is trickier to install but more robust than a convetional 1911 extractor.

"Yeah, I know extractors are supposed to be made of the best spring steel, but if we make them out of old foil sandwich wrappers from the deli we can save twenty whole cents on each one. What do you mean ask engineering? What do those geeks know? I am the chief accountant and I say how we make pistols!"
