Broken 44 is back to shooting again...

some of you may recall I cracked the cylinder on my new Lipsy's flat top 44 Special a while back, shooting some of my FIL's old reloads ( lesson learned )

with the help of a forum member ( 2 Dogs, on the single action forum... don't know if he posts here ) I was able to get a new unfired replacement cylinder...

after abusing my gun like that, I felt she deserved a little love in the form of some custom grips...

These Amboyna Burl grips are from Bear Paw grips... they were not fit to my frames, & I see are proud in a few spots I may want to take down yet... but they are oil finished, & should be easy to blend in when I get ready to do that...

gun looks much better in person, than in the pics... I'm happy to have all my fingers, a functional gun, & getting it back to shooting condition... I got very lucky on the fit on the replacement cylinder... it actually fits better than the original :)

It was very fortunate that the damage was confined to the cylinder. In most revolver blowups I have seen, the chamber being fired lets go, taking the two on either side with it, and the high pressure gas blows off the top strap and may bend the frame. Getting that gun shooting again required some work and skill and a lot of luck.

agree... just the slightest crack at the cylinder stop notch... Ruger has tough cylinder stock as they were more than double charges ( again... lesson learned... other peoples reloads... don't shoot them ) I really like this gun, I'm glad it turned out OK...

You have to be a serious nut to own a .44 spl

The only way you are going to tap that beauty's potential is to hand load. Nothing near magnum performance, but warmer than factory.

Do you have a problem with that?;)
I have the same gun and have been looking for wood grips for mine. I'm sorry to say that mine is not a lipsy but next single I buy will be the same as yours.
Good luck with this one.

Well, you can get to the bottom edge of Magnum performance with the Keith load (1200fps)... But I prefer the Skeeter load (1000fps) for most all of my .44Spec shooting. The flattop will do just about all that needs doing regardless.

Glad you got it back working! Enjoy.

I actually prefer the Bear Paw grips to be oversize. Sand down for an 'exact' fit. Lot better than buying under size grips you can't work with!!!
