Bring your neighbors to the Range!

Ok I got an Idea!!! Bring all your neighbors to the range with you!!! Doeesnt matter if they are Pro-Gun, or Anti-Gun, bring them with if you can get them to go! Today in America (atleast where I live) you are lucky if you know half the people on your block! This is a good way to get to know everyone and introduce them to Firearms (if they arent already). Lets get to work people! :)

P.S. I would say about 50% of my block are firearm owners! about 20% cops :)

One of my neighbors just lost all of his guns on a misdemeanor DV.

Another is 80 million years old and gives me the hairy eyeball every time she sees me.

Landlord is pro-gun, but he hasn't fired his thutty-thutty for over a decade, and doesn't have time now.

:(

While not a neighbor, a co worker of my wife's asked if we would call her the next time we go to the range.
Here's the catch: she is 6'2'', Australian, and a knock out. I had best be on my better behavior, heh heh heh...

Great idea, but start the basic safety stuff before you get to the range. At least where to point the muzzle, and keeping trigger finger safe.

Although I love the idea of recruiting new shooters, I'm both embarrassed and scared when one of them turns around with a gun in hand, pointing wherever they are looking. It just happens so naturally to the untrained.

I remember teaching a friend who just moved up from rifle to semi-auto pistol. When he limpwristed, it jammed, so he turned it 90 degrees to fiddle with it. The guy seated at the bench to our left gave us both a very well deserved nasty glance and all I could do was apologize and guide my friend a lot closer.

Knowing the rules, and living by the rules, is easier than teaching someone all at once.
IF each of us could teach 2 or 3 new people per year, or better still get them to pro instructors, we might reverse the tide.

YOU can take my neighbors to your range, I got lousy neighbors, nosy backstabbing busybodies for neighbors. Although there are a couple exceptions. I wish I could like them.

I am normally around people that KNOW about firearms, and how to respect them. I am "uneasy" around people that dont know what they are doing, if they are handling them. I know what you mean though, I have thought Boy Scouts (and some of their parents) how to shoot Rifles, Handguns, Shotguns. Need to teach them one on one at first. Oh By the way my dad is an NRA Instructor, and I will be going through those course when I am done with school.

Getting people who you know are NOT into firearms, interested in shooting IS A VERY GOOD IDEA!!! I know ALOT of people that NEVER even fired a gun, and have been getting alot of them asking me if they can goto "the range" with me. Will be taking atleast two this weekend. (One has held a few guns, not fired any, the other Never even held a real gun!!!) Will have to take it SLOWWW with them.

If you're really into this, a good intro is a pellet gun. Accurate in a garage and Right There - no need to go to a range (the reward) until they've mastered the safety aspect.

Whether handgun or rifle, there are some decent but cheap air guns out there.

Oatka is exactly right. I started my wife and two kids training with pellet pistols. The place to learn safety and basics is home.

I just bought a new pellet rifle this weekend. It's almost new Romanian Army surplus training rifle, used to guide the Young Pioneers until they were ready for the .22lr. The natural blond wood matches my SKS, as do the scaled down sights. The safety lever is a huge, visible thumb lever.
It's marked IMC PIONEER 3 CAL 4.5mm 1982 and is probably the commie reaction to the Reagan arms buildup (heh heh). It's too loud and illegal to shoot where I live, so accuracy is still unknown. The price was a mere $25.00.
