Bring back the lever?

A quick ballistics search found that the 30.30 has better ballistics than the 7.62x39... 150gr. vs. 120gr. is faster, has more energy, and is flatter shooting. Where am I going with this, I don't know. -Coop

Two different critters. 30-30 is a low end rifle cartridge, marginal at best for a main battle rifle.

7.62X39 is an intermediate cartridge, great for controllable burst fire in an assult rifle.

If you like lever guns, you can use nearly any rifle or pistol cartridge.

Good question; where are we goin with this ?

Maybe where you were going with it is that the .30-30 still makes a damn good "building block" rifle for any arsenal? I got a Marlin .30-30 for my first rifle because 1) the ammo is widely available; 2) the round is strong enough for hunting and certainly more than enough for self-defense; 3)the rifle itself was a bargain ($259 on-sale at Wal-mart); 4) the gun is light and fast-cycling, has decent capacity (6 + 1), and can be topped off at will; 5) its appearance is highly PC; and 6: a good thutty-thutty is an American as baseball, Mom, and apple pie.
