as of this writing our PNP (Philippine National Police) Special Action Forces and SWAT is battling the dreaded ABU SAYAFF goup (asg) a network group of AL QAEDA in the philippines inside the CAMP BAGONG DIWA Prison Center in Taguig, Metro Manila as some of the detained ASG leader overpowered some jail guards and in the process killing 3 jail guards with 2 ASG dead as of yesterday. PNP assault team assaulted the prison center after the 15mins. deadline expired today. special forces team tries to retake the center floor by floor while gun battles still rages on. ASG detainees were able to get hold of M14 and M16 assault rifles with a couple of handguns.

i wonder what prison protoccols are being observed by modern prison management. we see this news almost regularly in the Philippines, Russia, Brazil, U.S. and other countries. i can't sometimes help but think that there is some laxity among prison guards that allow these things to happen. ASG are hardcore no less than the group of ABU MUSSAB AL ZARQAWI in IRAQ.

Theres a reason they shouldn't let terrorists live... :barf:

Serriously, are they even worth keeping? Should just let the troops put two in the temple and leave the corpse.

Glad that our allies are doing their job in their home countries :)

rite on. i for one agree w/ u if its an actual encounter. but once these BS/BGs are arrested and taken alive then put to jail we have no recourse but to follow the rule of law. treat them rite and treat them humanely.

That's the point which all this revolves around, isn't it? I wonder if we'll ever come to the conclusion that following the rule of law is fine when dealing with those who do the same, but dangerous when they know no law but that of the jungle. Perhaps Joshua had the right idea when he conquered Jerico...

old-p - as members of a civil society we are bound to moral and legal laws, nothing more, nothing less. but of course actual field combat is sometimes dictated by some obscure laws mostly dictated on the field operators. adrenalin is high, emotions are high anxiety level is just too much to bear for field personell that is why most wars are just and moral it all depends on ones perpective. everything can be rite especially for the victors. but once you capture an enemy alive there is no recourse but moral, fair and humane tretament must exceed ones anger and hatred.

Roger, I started school ‘way back in 1939 at a one-room, eight-grade country school. I was the smallest kid in that school and all the others took turns letting me know just where my ‘place’ was. At night I’d complain to my Dad and he’d tell me to pick up a stick and whomp ‘em. Well, I still thought I had to fight fair to get their respect, so I didn’t take his advice…. Until one day when I was spitting out some bloody dirt and I realized they weren’t fighting fair! They were regularly beating the snot out of the smallest kid around. So I picked up a piece of firewood and clobbered a couple of them. Staring back up at me from the ground, I could see the beginning of something like respect in their eyes and I built on it by telling them what else I’d do if they didn’t leave me alone. They did.

We’re at war and our enemy isn’t fighting fair. This enemy is hiding in stores, schools and hospitals while waiting to attack women and children. If we limit ourselves to fighting by some arcane set of rules we’re handicapping ourselves and endangering our entire society. Remember, history has no room for losers. Germany has no streets named for Hitler nor does Japan celebrate Tojo’s birthday. Jefferson Davis’ birthday isn’t marked on my calendar, but Lincoln’s is.

This war, more so than any other I can remember, has to be won. There is no second place.
