Heya all, I have heard from a friend that the ammo you use to break in a handgun should be either "Super Clean" or "Match" how do you guys feel about this, and how do you break in your handgun? Thanks in advance. N8.

First things first.

1. What make of gun is it.

2. What type Gun is it.

First thing is to field strip it and Clean it.
Also read the Instruction manual. Alot of time there are instruction on how to break in the pistol.

DITTO tonyz!! Fieldstrip and clean before doing ANYTHING else.

(OK, maybe read the manual first to lean how to do a proper fieldsrip.):D :D

I buy a couple hundred rounds of ball ammunition and a box of HydraShoks, Gold Dots and SXT's. I then fire up the ball ammo for initial break-in and the hollowpoints to determine which load the gun likes best. Then I go buy lots more ammo.

Nuther nod for what Blades said bout ammo.

Read the manual, clean it.........AND LUBE IT amazing the number of guns, new or used, that are improperly lubed. And in a few cases of new lately, not lubed at all.

The more you know bout your gun, the sooner it will get to like you and perform well for you.

Read the manual before you clean and lube the gun. Some manufacturers put a break-in lube on certain parts and don't want you to wipe it off before firing the gun for the first time. (Glock and SIGArms both do this, as do others.)

Sam's right, if you make your new gun mad it takes twice as long to break it in and get it to act right. :D

I've never heard anyone recommend a "break in" on a handgun. I must be out of touch. I've never done any thing with any of my handguns besides a quick field strip to verify function...then shoot the heck out of the gun(s).
I do not own a Kimber, Les Baer, or other top end gun but I do shoot H&K, Glock, CZ, Beretta, CZ, Walther etc....
I have never read this in any of the owner's manuals.
