Brazil putting gun law to a vote

Yeah, I read that it'll happen on October 23.

We'll get to see just how smart or dumb the people of Brazil are, I guess...

Their country is out of control; corruption is rampant; crime is at BIZARRE levels; the police are unable to do anything to control crime except operate death squads; nighttime carjackings got so bad that they simply decriminalized running stop signs and red lights at night!... Organized gangs will raid prisons with military-grade weapons to bust out your friends, for a fee...

And they think that there's a chance in hell that a gun ban will make things better.

Un-freakin'-believable.

Well, we'll see what the vote turns out.

Should we hazard a guess that maybe the only reason they're putting it to a vote is that polls say the people favor a ban? (I dunno -- do they?)

And in a place as corrupt as Brazil, if we come to hear that the people voted in favor of a ban and they ban guns, was the vote result even real, or just a fabrication by the anti-gun government?

gun ban

hey don't knock it it worked in britain and australia stopped all the crime over there. The bad guys realized that its bad to commit crimes and changed their ways. they became model citzens.

From Article said:
The Sim, or yes, campaign does not claim that the ban would disarm the country's criminals or that the drug-related warfare that ravages poor communities will end. Rather, activists argue that fewer guns means fewer deaths and that the vast majority of Brazil's122 million people will be safer.

[Translation]: No no no... see, the bad people will still run around with their weapons shooting who they want - we understand that. What we want to do is draw a faulty parallel by saying fewer guns = fewer deaths (cuz that's kind of a feel good statement, right!?), while brushing aside the fact that all the good people will be disarmed and vulnerable. We're just hoping you forget the vulnerable part.[/Translation]

Fewer guns means fewer deaths. Fewer deaths for the criminals and drug warlords who will no longer fear return fire? So, then does this mean a Sim vote, or yes vote, is essentially a vote to protect the scum?

I just heard about this on FOX News a few minutes ago. 36,000 firearms deaths each year?

Anyway, it was specualted that the referendum would be voted down.

Viva Brazil

They had a referendum on whether the people should have guns. The majority said yes, and the President (an anti-gunner) said he would follow the will of the people. People power counts!

So now, when a Brazilian gangster leaps out with a knife and says ' hey Gringo- what's in heem bag.' You can pull out your Rossi.
He'll say:- 'Ooh - heem got a GON.'
His half-witted offsider will say 'Hey Manuel, Whats a GON?'
Manuel will reply:- ' It's like a GUN, only not as well made.'

rapier144 - Australians do have guns! All sorts- it's just a little more complex for us. I have heaps of them. The law requires me to belong to a gun club. Not a big deal.
