Brass Shotgun Ammo

I recently came across some all brase 12ga shotgun ammo. Appears to be from mid 40s or 50s id say becuae its very old appearing but I have really know way of knowing. Does anyone know when it was made and if its worth anything to a collector
 
Actually, although very old school, all brass shot shell cases are still being manufactured.

What does it say on your shell's head stamp -- pics would help.
 
I've seen some at the local gun shows lately - that were new shells - but I don't recall what the headstamp was....

My hunch is they're being imported from somewhere...

Sure, they're collectable ....but are they worth anything / or will they appreciate in value ....maybe, but probably not, in my opinion.
 
Back in the day, Alcan was the big dog in the reloading component business. Powder, primers, wads and hulls, Alcan did it all. In addition to supplying components for the standard loads they also made an effort to provide components for odd-ball loads. They provided brass hulls for those interested in old timey black powder shotguns. IIRC, Alcan was sold to the owners of S&W many years ago.
 
Cabelas sells Magtech shotshell brass. 12, 16, 20, 28, .410 and 24ga as well. I imagine one could make these new brass shells look antique. The headstamps might need some tweaking to make them look "antique", though. I don't imagine anyone faking these...the cost of the brass itself and time tweaking it would probably offset the profit.
 
In the Army, we were issued all brass shotgun (00 buck) shells in the 50's. I carried a Winchester 97 loaded with them on stockade guard.

I doubt they are worth a lot of money, but will probably shoot just fine.
 
In 1970, I was using a 97 for guard duty, loaded with all brass cased 00. Leftover stuff from WWII, IMO. Never used it in combat, but it was a real comfort at zero dark 30 in SEA......
 
Thats pretty cool then I have something like that. I just looked at all the headstamps on some other site that Alcan used and I couldnt find mine. I found one like it other than mine say Issued in Italy and the ones I found online say Made in U.S.A.

Yeah, I actually shot a qualification course with my 97 loaded with all brass 00 buck. The Army made the mistake of using a 2X4 in the middle of the silhouette targets. I cut the 2x4 in two and the target folded in half.....I passed.:D
