brass cleaning rods

is it possible to damage barrel of a pistol if you use brass pistol rod?
any damage to revolver when cleaning from muzzle?

What Old Bear said, plus about ten more years.

I've always preferred brass both for the bore rods and the chamber cleaning rod.

You probably picked this up from someone or some place and looking for some confirmation. ..... ;)

Yes, it's "possible" but not likely or at least not in one's lifetime. even an aluminum rod can cause some wear. I really would not give it much thought or worry. .... :rolleyes:

The only firearm I clean, from the muzzle, is a SideLock M/L. ...... ;)

do i need a bore guide if i an cleaning pistols and revolvers from the muzzle? will brass rod collect grit and so damage the bore?

Not likely and not as bad as aluminum. .... :)

Even my poly rods will eventually mark a bore and don't forget the crown. .. ;)

Brass is softer than steel. It's also good to use a bore guide. I've only one one-piece steel rod which is coated and used with a bore guide from the breech end. My other rods are sectional brass (with exception of the blackpowder rods which are one piece brass).

Don't quote me but the Muzzle guard is so you can clean from the muzzle end without damaging the crown.. Bore guide i've only seen used on bolt actions when cleaning from the chamber end.

I don't use either but then again I only have 1 bolt action, never shoot it I don't even have any ammo for it was my fathers 22-250.

I'd only worry about things like this if you have an expensive target gun.

I'd pick brass over any other rod material.. aluminum I think would actually be more abrasive, I would not use steel but then it's probably not a big deal unless you get really rough with the gun.

I have seen graphite and steel coated rods that have a slick gloss finish like a fishing rod..

Personally all my rods are cheap aluminium rods and they do the job just fine.. 1 piece rods are nice though for rifles.

I wouldn't over think it my self but I don't own any high end target guns all my guns outshoot me already.
