So I just brought home my brand new Super Redhawk .454 casull. This one has a 9.5" barrel AND is bright stainless! According to the folks at Ruger, they only made 30 of these in this configuration! Of course, there are lots of .454 SRHs in Target Grey finish with a 9.5" barrel, but NOT in bright stainless. Also, the lettering on the gun is different. It seems to be laser etched instead of stamped like all the Target Grey ones. There seems to be less lettering on the barrel too. I can't wait to shoot it!

CONGRATS nice looking rig,Iown one of the grey ones never seen one like yours.I can tell you this its going to be a hand full with full power loads.
GOOD luck let us know how it shoots.

Pardon my ignorance, and not to derail the thread, but are scopes put on handguns different from those on rifles? Is there a really long eye-relief? It just seems like if you put your eye close enough to use a scope on a handgun that big, you're likely to wind up with a black eye...

Nice looking gun . . . . I've got the .454 SRH in stainless and it looks just like yours except I have the 7.5 inch barrel.

For the other guy . . . most handgun scopes have a 18 to 20 inch eye relief . . . .

Newfrontier, yes all the new ones have the bright stainless finish, but you can't get it with the 9.5 inch barrel, only the 7.5 inch barrel is available new.

wow!

That thing looks incredible! lol

I will say this. I am man enough to admit that I'd be a bit worried about shooting that thing. I think that I can also say that I don't plan on hunting tanks anytime soon! lol

How much more recoil is there for that .454 compared to a 44 mag?

wow. somehow I doubletapped the post!

Sweet looking gun! I like the stainless look much better than the grey. The laser etching is nice too.

KevK, the recoil for 454 Casull is quite a bit more than a 44. Depending on the gun and the load, they can be borderline painful.

Great gun. I know we all have our thresholds but in the 7.5" and 9.5" with the added weight of the scope, the recoil is significant but not bad. The 2.5" Alaskan is a different story. I am currently recovering from wrist surgery after nerve damage from shooting max loads in the Alaskan from a rest too many times. Unfortunately I had to sell them all and my future shooting will be limited to .45's and .357's. But oh my what those .454's did to deer and hogs was a thing of beauty!

I have a Mag Research single action 45/70 gov't. It is a bit heavy and long but it will get the job done. The recoil is less than the 44 Mag 4" the 45/70 is more like pushing you than it is snappy like the 44 Mag.

I'm thinking of having it cut down to 6" and ported it should make it a little easier to carry right now it’s in my pack. I know, I know I need a Ruger Alaskan 454 casull for hiking easier to carry on my hip. I don’t plan on shooting it for fun just for bear defense.

Most .454 loads kick a lot more than .44 mag; however, there is a Winchester Super-X loading in the silver box that is relatively light more like the .44.
