Brady Bill Stops a whoppin' 204K gun sales

I saw in the late late late news tonight (during another bout of insomnia) that the Brady Bill's background check stopped 204,000 gun sales last year. The interesting thing is that that number was out of about 8.5 million guns sold! My husband did the math and said that works out to about 1/4 of 1 percent! Way to go Sarah Brady, you're really makin' headway!!

Of course abcnews made it sound as if that was actually an impressive number.

If this has already been posted, I apologize. I'm dead on my feet but can't sleep! :(

Now I wonder who's rectum they pulled that number out of?

I can make up numbers too! Really!

NICS "stops" gun sales too - when they pull he plug on the computer system...

NRA? Good. Now join the GOA!

Serious questions about those numbers...

1. How many stops were for valid reasons, such as a prior felony conviction?

2. How many of those stops were false stops, in which the person later got his/her gun legally?

And the big one...

3. How many of those who actually tried to purchase a gun but had a felony record will actually be prosecuted by the government?

Judging by the Clinton Administration's performance to date, probably no more than 5 of them.

www.wnd.com has an AP story that gives a few more facts about convictions and such.

Funny that a 100 percent increase can be 2. This year we had a 100% increase in convictions. Sorry to say we only convicted 1 person last year.

Goes to show that polls and statistics can mean whatever you want them to.

Of course, we can't expect to see many (if but a handful) prosecuted for trying to purchase a firearm.

I don't think all denials may be due to "felon" status. There are probably a lot of welfare recepients who are denied (in CA), or folks with restraining orders or what not. I wonder how many are actual felons?

OK paratrooper, so it's 2.4 %, he forgot to multiply by 100, DOH! :) That's still an extremely small percentage...

I dunno where they got the numbers, what I didn't like was the way they applauded it as a big accomplishment.
