BPS purchase

I've sort of been looking for a used pump and I've just acquired a used Browning BPS 12 guage for $200. It's a smoothbore 20" with rifle sights, matte finish, and checkered wood in decent condition. A law officer had traded it to a local gunshop but I have no other history on it.
A search here did not offer too much on this model. The barrel markings include "special steel" and "made in Japan". I have had an Auto-5 all my life but this is my first Browning pump, so I'd appreciate any information on this configuration. If it shoots ok, I'll keep it loaded with buckshot for home defense. Not tested yet.
Thanks. Dave

It's a good shotgun, Dave. Your's has the top safety, right?

Should be a smooth shucker, enjoy it. While these are not as popular as the Big 4, their owners tend to be a loyal lot.

Be patient to clean it inside. Don't take the bolt and carrier out unless you have to, just spray it out with brake cleaner and stand it up in the corner on the barrel. Spray some lube of your choice in the action to lube and protect, and shoot it some more. They are the WORST shotgun to re-assemble EVER!! I had a BPS Trap for a couple years and loved it, fell out of love with trap so I traded it. Good solid gun and the slickest pump action on the planet, but a royal PITA to strip and put back together.

BTW, if in good shape you got a pretty good deal on it.
