Boyd's Stock inletting too big

I bought a Boyd's Ross Thumbole sporter stock. The inletting around the action (Mauser 24/47) is too big, causing gaps all around the tang of the reciever. Any ideas on how to fill the gaps to make the appearance decent? The stock is a pepperwood laminate.

I was thinking about the bedding. I would consider sending it back, but the yugo stocks are backordered forever, so to get one is a minor miracle. I was thinking about pillar bedding it, and then taping the action and bedding it, so the action itself would float, but it would have an even gap all the way around...

The Plastic Steel from Devcon is a dark grey. You could just bed the sucker and sand the top so the devcon and side of the stock are even.

Is it less than 1/8" all the way around?

An Acraglas Gel kit comes with both black and brown dyes that you can add to the bedding compound. Just bed around the action and tang with this stuff.

Pillar bedding a Mauser is somewhat oversold. The front of the trigger guard makes contact with the bottom of the receiver by design. The rear screw normally does go into a sleeve, which is all the "pillars" are anyway. Just reuse the sleeve from the military stock, or buy a new one from Brownells when you order the Acraglas.

Thanks for the advice. The main reason I'd pillar bed is because it is easy. I work in a machine shop, and have a CNC setup at home as well, so turning out a few pillars is simple.
