Boyds replacement stocks for the M77 Hawkeye

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Can anyone on this board give me their experience replacing the factory wood stock on their Ruger Model 77 with a laminated stock from Boyds?

I'm tempted to get a replacement for my LH Hawkeye standard 30-06 before I start banging it around in the woods. Boyds offers a replacement stock for my rifle at just over $100. Would a laminate be more immune to the moisture and casual bumps? Recommended or not? Thanks in advance.

I put a Boyd's Thumbhole Laminate on a Remington 700. Excellent quality and construction. Easy to fit to the gun and install. Just be aware it will add significant weight to the gun. Resin is heavy. Yes, it has good immunity to the elements too.

Laminates are much more resistant to weather than standard wood. I haven't put one on a ruger but I have used two different styles on 2 savages. One of them had their textured black paint which would probably help seal out moisture too. Both stocks are very well constructed. My only problems were on one the relief for the bolt release wasn't cut deep enough, but that stock had just been released and they've likely fixed that problem now. The second stock was also a newer style and I needed to replace the factory action screws with longer ones.

Last year I replaced the boat paddle stock on my M77 MarkII with a laminate stock from Boyds. The stock fit great. I did modify the mag well so that when the action is bolted in the mag well free floats a small amount to reduce stress on the action. I think this is a common issue on this gun. I love this stock compared to the boat paddle stock from Ruger. The gun feels and looks 100 better.
