Let me know if I am out of line here. A few years ago I was Steelhead fishing on Elk Creek in Erie Co Pa. I had a Fish Commisioner approach me ( uh no now what ) and ask if I would oppose a license fee increase. He had asked a number of different questions such as how much i generally spend while in the area, did I frequent different area attractions and how much I would spend on a given weeken fishing. Basically he said an increase of 1.00 to 2.00 per license would be expected - no problem with that I said. The next year the cost of a fishing license jumped from 12.50 (with a trout stamp 17.50) to 37.50 with a trout/ Erie combo stamp.
Now on to the PAGC. A basic license costs 19.00 and allows you to take small game, 2 turkeys, 1 fall, 1 spring, 1 buck. Not a bad deal, since most of my friends and I only go out for a day of buck, a day of pheasant and if we are lucky maybe one day of turkey. So 2-3 days out of a hunting license for 19.00 isn't that bad. Now everybody knows the PAGC can't manage anything, let alone finances. I mean these guys in Harrisburg literally can't manage a damn thing. So here is thier new and improved fee schedule.
Basic license from 19.00 to 29.00
Bear stamp from 15.00 to 25.00
Pheasant Stamp from 0.0 to 10.00 oh and by the way the PAGC used to stock 200,000 birds state wide, down to 100,000 now with no intentions of stocking anymore with your 10.00 stamp.
Turkey stamp from 0.0 to 5.00, 10.00 for both fall/spring
So a basic hunting license that afforded someone like me the right to hunt a couple days a year jumped from 19.00 to close to 50.00:barf:
Oh, lifetime PA hunters, your license went from 50.00 to 99.00
Children yours went up also
Out of staters - don't even ask
Here is a novel idea, merge the PAGC and PAFBC to save money, better yet get rid of both of them and put the PA State Police in charge of enforcement, it is specified in thier crimes codes.
PAGC, your crying because you lost 210,000 hunters in the last 10 years, implement your increase and lose another 200,000 next year.
To those who don't care, sorry for the meltdown but I feel better
