Boycott Bass Pro Shops/Outdoor World!!!!

Outdoor World, the retail showroom for Bass Pro Shops, has stopped selling certain types of guns, most notably semi-auto handguns. This is apparently in response to the recent wave of anti-gun public sentiment . As a retailer catering to American sportsmen, one would think that Bass Pro would stand up in opposition to the anti-gun faction, but this is not the case. I will no longer do business with this company, and I urge others to do the same. We even have a "Boycott Bass Pro Shops" poster on the wall of our gun club!

They just opened up a new store on International Drive here in Orlando. They don't sell ANY handguns. Only rifles and shotguns.

Well then you may as well do the same to Wal-Mart cause they stopped selling handguns 3 years ago for the same reasons. If they don't wanna sell handguns, oh well, I'll go to another place and get one. I don't agree with either of these companys bowing out to the antis pressure but write them and tell them about it. At the rate these mainstream stores are going you won't be able to shop anywhere in a few years because you will be boycotting all of them.

I was just in Outdoor World, last week; it's an anchor store in the brand new Oprymills Mall in Nashville. I specifically recall there being two Ruger .22 autos on display; one target model and one standard. I commented to my wife about today's price, compared to the $35 I paid in 1963.

Maybe it's a local franchisee's decision?

Also, given the hunting orientation, I would not necessarily be perturbed at a lack of self-defense or para-military guns.

Some of the Bass Pro Shops do sell handguns, but not all of them. Its left up to the store.

Art, all the stores are owned by John L. Morris, the founder of Bass Pro, and they are not franchises.

flyguy,
Was this the Gurnee, IL Bass Pro. They stopped carrying most handguns sometime before Christmas last year. My buddy's father-in-law bought 3 new guns at clearance prices. IIRC, this particular Bass Pro Shop made some kind of deal [with devil jr] with Mayor King Richard Daley of Chitcago.

The Gurnee store has a pistol range too. I wonder how long till they shut that down. :(

I'll check out the new store on the west side of Houston, as I head home next week...It is nice to see a mall anchored by a huntin' & fishin' store. Gives the guys a place to go while the old lady is wearing out shoes so she can buy some new ones.

Well, got back from Bass Pro in Auburn Hills, MI yesterday. They were still selling revolvers and semi .22lrs (and air gun replicas of semiautos, a SIG P220 Sport caught mu eye before realizing it was air).

Man, that place has an UNBELIEVABLE amount of fishing gear. Leafing through there catalogs is one thing but to see all of those rods and reels and lures and etc. is another.
