Actually the wife picked it up for me. A Marlin 795. She knew that I wanted a 22LR rifle, dropped by the local pawn/gun and picked it up for me. Hopefully I can get to the range, and get a chance to fire it today. I know that a lot of people say if you are gonna go 22, the best choice is the Ruger 10/22, but for a lot less money I will gladly take what I have. I will be looking to get a scope fairly soon.

Any useful info/suggestions you guys have on the gun, or scope choice feel free to share it.

I just picked up a 795 yesterday. Its not my first rifle but my first semi-auto
.22. I cant wait to shoot it on Sunday.

Give us a range report when you fire it.

i got a 795 a few weeks ago and its a great gun. I added a 4x scope and a sling. The only advice i have is clean it good before you go shooting. Other than you might want to polish the feed ramp. I havent had any problems with it feeding yet, but it could use some tlc to be a bit smoother.

You will be able to shoot just as well as a stock 10/22 with the 795. I suggest a Leapers mount for the scope. This is the best mount available for the Marlins.

Get some good ammo and throw a good scope on it and your good to go. Dont get cheap on the scope, any of those 20-30 dollar ones at Wal Mart arnt very good. Spend yourself a hundred dollars and get something just for rimfire guns like it is. Then give it a good cleaning and oil it up and hit the range

I bought mine 13 days ago.
Hate to say I almost returned it 6 days ago. The trigger is the worst outta the box I've ever felt.
Hope yours is better. For $114 I was too embarrassed to bring it back. The 795 is supposed to be a great gun, and was once.
Make sure you submit for your $25 Rebate -- look at Marlin online.

Step 1. Break it down and clean it. If you don't know how to take it down this clip will help. Just be more careful with the recoil spring when taking the bolt out and putting it back in than this guy. It kinks easy.

I like my 795 better than the 10/22. Most people who say the 10/22 is better simply do it because it can be customized more anyway. The difference in actual accuracy is negligible. As long as you keep it clean it will shoot just as good as a 10/22 any day, for less money.

Don't hurry on the scope.

I would. The 795 stock sights do not have a reputation of being any good. If you want to go with iron sights the factory adjustable one is a good replacement.

The ultimate would be some Tech Sites

The 795 is an outstanding rifle, but I have to agree with Blackshirts - the sights are substandard. But a tech-sighted or optic-equipped 795 is pretty hard to beat in the realm of affordable semi-auto 22s.

Took er to the range

I got a chance to take it out to the range today for a hour or so. For the most part I just shot it at 30 yards or less. At about 15 yards I was able to put it in a grouping the size of a quarter, at 30 yards well I was on paper  but definitely need to work on that distance a bit. Like I stated before this is my first rifle so I'm sure I have a LOT of learning to do but, it'll be fun getting there.

Not bad groups for 15 yards with your first gun. Good thing is that is probably the "worst" group you will shoot. Can only get better from here!

congrats on your first rifle. Now you started something that you don't even know how bad the ADDICTION gets.
