Bought my first revolver today...

I've owned 7 semi-auto pistols in the last 4 years, but haven't gotten around to a revolver until today. I decided on a Taurus 85 Ultra-Lite .38 special. Aluminum and stainless steel.

I've had the revolver bug really bad for the last few days and just decided to go out and get one today. It was a tough choice between the Taurus 85 UL and a Ruger SP101. I considered the Taurus 85 Titanium model, but the weight difference didn't seem worth the $ to me.

I decided to get a small light 2" .38 today, and get a 4" .357 later (probably a used S&W 686).

It's great to finally have a revolver in the collection. I shot it at the range today and it was 100% reliable. The finish looks great and everything seems to lock up tight. Recoil was less than I expected and the gun was very controllable and accurate for such a short barrel.

I'm very impressed with this little gun. :D

Welcome to the evil coven of revolver owners!

Mmmmwwwhahahahahahahahah!

Ok, really. :)

Glad to see that there's another person discovering the wonder that is a good, solid revolver.

It's funny, the first handgun I ever bought was a semi-automatic, but when I got my first revolver a couple of years later?

I knew that I had stumbled onto something REALLY good.

Yesterday I added another revolver to the fold, my fifth S&W N-frame, which I'm in the process of buying from a shop in Pennsylvania.

I've got quite a few semi-autos, and quite a few revolvers, but semi-autos are just guns to me. The revolvers, though, are something altogether different, especially older Smith & Wesson revolvers.

As you get more familiar with your new acquisition, be sure to check in regularly and let us know how you like it!

Welcome to the classy side......

I love revolvers also. Nothing as beautiful as a blued or nickeled revolver. It just says "I've got class" that a semi-auto doesn't. I have four of them and I'm in the process of picking up another.(Colt Detective Spl.)

Congrats on your "conversion" to wheel guns!

Life won't be the same from now on. I've not been a fan of Taurus but the M85 I once had was an excellent gun. Period! Looking forward to your range report. Good shooting:)

A Makarov a few weeks ago, today a Taurus revolver. What's next?

I think I've decided, in June I'm going to get a Glock 26 and a Taurus Titanium 850 CIA, my first non-S&W revolver. The one you got would be my 2nd choice.

Another one bites the dust..........

Gbelleh: Bully for you! A fine choice.

I also am the pleased owner of a Taurus Mod 85 Ultralite in black with the Taurus Rosewood boot grips.

Now, I don't work for Georgia Arms but if you want to try a wide variety of inexpensive, but quality ammo, check out

I had fun shooting all their varieties and found their 125 gr PLUS-P SJHP's to be the most point-of-aim accurate. (158 gr a little high, 110 gr a little low)

I also own a Smith and Wesson J-frame .38 spcl and with my eyes closed, I can scarcely tell the difference in the trigger pull on either!

What next? Why a good .357 for some REAL fun!

Thanks for the replies.
I'm really enjoying the world of revolvers!
I just got back from a trip to Cincinnati (my new Taurus makes a great carry gun!)
My friend from Cincinnati recently bought a titanium S&W 342. We shot them side by side and we both agreed the Taurus Ultra-Lite was much more pleasant to shoot. Both shot great, but that 342 kicks HARD!
So far I've only put 60 rounds through the 85 UL, but it has been great!

I have a set of rosewood grips on the way from Taurus. I'm looking forward to trying those out.

alamo,
It's getting bad! Since getting the Makarov, I've also bought a new CZ 75B and a Bersa .380. Next is going to be a P7 M8. Next revolver will most likely be a used S&W 686. I'm running out of room for all these guns!

Yep, the Taurus M85s are cool guns. I have a Stainless Steel M85, and a Total Titanium M85. Both have been 100% reliable with no functional or cosmetic defects of any kind.
