Bought my first handgun!!!

Well I went to the dealer expecting to leave with a Glock. What did I leave with? A 99% LNIB w/papers SW 4013TSW. It was probably the farthest thing from my mind that I would ever buy. I hope to fire it this weekend to see how she really handles. At least I didn't buy one new!!! What do ya'll think about this weapon. Anyone have any experiences / tips good or bad?

Love at first feel....

The pistol fits fabulously in my hand. Not that the Glocks don't. However, the grip was not much longer than a subcompact Glock, yet didn't feel like it was about to pop out of my hand like the Glock. It is the perfect size for a carry weapon. I wasn't really familiar with it, but after stripping her down, and getting some honest opinions from some guysI trusted; I knew that it was the one for me. And if you believe price was an issue you are a bit off. I paid 20 bucks more for it than I could have payed for the Glock.

Good on ya!

I had a 4516-1 that would out shoot most full sized 1911's. The 4013TSW is about the same size, maybe a half inch shorter. I really liked that 4516, but I fell in lust with a P229 and I traded it away.:(

I think you'll be happy with your new gun.

Welcome to the world of handgunning. :) It's gonna be a big expense from now on. They multiply, just like getting a Gremlin wet. :D

I have a buddy who's had a S&W 4013TSW for quite a few years now (V1, no accessory rail). I've shot it on a couple of outings, and I gotta admit, it's smoothe! It's accurate, recoil is mild, feels great in the hand, and I enjoyed shooting it overall. As a bonus, they can use some pre-ban full cap magazines from earlier models.

The only reason I didn't buy one myself is the safety. All the Traditional Double Action (DA/SA) pistols I have ever owned have had the "up-safe, down-fire" configuration. The S&W is just the opposite, and I prefer to keep things the same.

As I have bought pistol after pistol, trying to find the "perfect" carry piece, he has laughed each time, stating that he bought the perfect one for him the first time out ;) .

congratulations! I don't think you'll be disappointed!

CONGRATULATIONS! Welcome to the family of gun enthusiasts. My first gun was a Smith auto. I loved it, because it was mine and it went bang. I'm not crazy about S&W the company anymore but they made some good stuff. It doesn't matter the brand. Its important that you be safe and smart, so you can breed more gun enthusiast. Happy Shooting! :D

Thanks All!

I am really excited about this pistol, hope to break it in on Sunday. I gave it a good Marine Corps style cleaning when I got it home. I am not real crazy about SW most of the time, but this was the PERFECT carry pistol for me. I appreciate all the kind comments. I am just so excited, I had to let everyone know!!!

I made a similar choice - I've purchased my first handgun last month - a S&W 5906 TSW. I stuck with the 9mm for the cheaper ammo, but I've also shot the 4013. Despite the pressure to buy Glock, etc.., I fell in love with the feel of the 5906 - it fits my hand like it was made for me. You'll have lots of fun with your new gun - congrats! Just be careful, it's hard not to want to buy more. I've got a Beretta 92G Elite II coming this weekend.

p.s. Does your W. Lafayette address mean that you're a Boilermaker? I spent the better part of the 80's at Purdue, collecting my BSEE and MSEE. Oh, to be back at Harry's Chocolate Shop hoisting a few.:D

GO BOILERS!!!

You hit the nail on the head!!! I'm a boilermaker in my second year now. I started on a full scholarship for Aero Engineering. However I decided I didn't want to be an engineer. I am now a Political Science major. I am also a Marine Option in the NROTC program here. My actual home for now is in Fort Wayne, but I am moving to Melbourne, Fl in about two weeks. Good to find another boiler!!!

NROTC, you say? I was NROTC from 83-87, commissioned USN in Dec '88. (Actually, I was a 'super-senior for 3 semesters, while I completed Grad School. (If they keep old records, look up Jonathan Gill.)) I went Navy Nuke, though. :barf: I did my 5 and joined CIVPAC. Best of luck to you - and enjoy your days at Purdue. They go by too fast.
