Well, I couldn't help myself yet again. Local gunshop had a slightly used Stainless Kimber Compact in the case when I arrived Thursday. I've been looking for a new 1911 for a few months now as my old one is now over 60 years old and has an estimated 70,000 rounds through it. I saw this Officers Model sized 1911 sitting there and my hand went to my wallet of its own volition.
It was lust at first sight, and love after my first range session with it today.
I was worried about recoil of a .45 ACP with the smaller grip and frame, but it wasn't a worry. This has less recoil that my .40S&W G22 or Walther P99.
It needed to be cleaned when I got it because I don't think the last owner cleaned it at all. I couldn't beleive how much carbon and crud was caked into this gun. Let me find the jerk that had it before me. After I got it cleaned up though, this has to be the smoothest 1911 I've ever used. I've always loved the 1911, but I never realized it could be this sweet. Having grown accustomed to the "schiiiick thunk" sound of my G22 being worked, I just love the "clickety-clickety-CLACK" of the Kimber's side (Trust me on this, I'm not nuts, it's just noticable)
At the range, it impressed even more. Best 7 shot group was one big 2" hole in the center of the target from 25 yards. *BLISS* I even purposely tried to jam it by mixing ammo in the magazine, but she just kept running. 300 rounds total and I would have kept going, but I ran out of rounds.
The only drawback is I need to buy new mags and leather now. All my old stuff is for a full sized 1911 instead of an officers model.
