Bought my 1st Kimber (won't be the last)

Well, I couldn't help myself yet again. Local gunshop had a slightly used Stainless Kimber Compact in the case when I arrived Thursday. I've been looking for a new 1911 for a few months now as my old one is now over 60 years old and has an estimated 70,000 rounds through it. I saw this Officers Model sized 1911 sitting there and my hand went to my wallet of its own volition.

It was lust at first sight, and love after my first range session with it today.

I was worried about recoil of a .45 ACP with the smaller grip and frame, but it wasn't a worry. This has less recoil that my .40S&W G22 or Walther P99.

It needed to be cleaned when I got it because I don't think the last owner cleaned it at all. I couldn't beleive how much carbon and crud was caked into this gun. Let me find the jerk that had it before me. After I got it cleaned up though, this has to be the smoothest 1911 I've ever used. I've always loved the 1911, but I never realized it could be this sweet. Having grown accustomed to the "schiiiick thunk" sound of my G22 being worked, I just love the "clickety-clickety-CLACK" of the Kimber's side (Trust me on this, I'm not nuts, it's just noticable)

At the range, it impressed even more. Best 7 shot group was one big 2" hole in the center of the target from 25 yards. *BLISS* I even purposely tried to jam it by mixing ammo in the magazine, but she just kept running. 300 rounds total and I would have kept going, but I ran out of rounds.

The only drawback is I need to buy new mags and leather now. All my old stuff is for a full sized 1911 instead of an officers model.

Congrats!

They're sweet guns...sweet enough that I'm going to go buy the wife one tommorow.

No problems with the dreaded Series II safety? Or was it the older Series I?

In any case, have fun buying accessories! :)

MarineTech,

Congrats on the purchase. My wife bought the exact same model for me last Christmas, except in the lightweight version. If you are looking for a good concealed-carry setup, I've got a custom made black leather IWB rig with matching belt made specifically for this gun. The holster maker screwed up and made it right-hand, even though I am a southpaw. PM me if you are interested.

Lictalon, No problem with the safety. This is a series 1 pistol.

rock_jock, thanks for the offer, but I'll stick with a Milt Sparks VM2. I've had great luck with them and I already have one on order.

HEY! A fellow Mainiac! :D
Bought my barely used Kimber compact about 2 years ago. Thousands of rounds without a hitch. Great accuracy, and one heck of a nice trigger. Conceals real well, especially with the shorter grip frame. Congrats with your purchase!

My Kimber .45 A.C.P. is the single best model 1911 I've ever owned or shot. I don't know how the Kimber folks do what they do, but they're doing the right thing as well as I can tell. I'm thinking about their .22 caliber rifle now.

You can't beat a Series I pistol. I've heard nothing but good from them. Hopefully the market value will increase even more over time for the older series as they become more scarce, although I don't plan on selling mine.

I've even been tempted to have my name engraved somewhere on the weapon to prevent me from temptation!:D

Good Shooting

Have 3 Kimbers: Ultra Carry I, Custom I, and Custom Target II. No trouble at all with the fullsize II. The problem may be worse in the smaller versions. The Ultra is amazingly accurate for such a short bbl. Enjoy, and it probably won't be your last Kimber.
