$9.95 each, i figured how can I go wrong, so I buy 5.

They will turn your M1A into a glorified bolt action. They dont seat well enough into the magazine well to allow reliable feeding.

I guess I gotta break loose with big money and buy some real mags.

You get what you pay for...

there is also the theory that you have just reseved yourself 5 preban mags.

If replacement mag bodies become available, you are allowed to repair your preban mags

Ouch!

dZ, do you think if I used mine as targets I can still keep them as preban replacement stock? heheh

Actually I think dz is right. Replacment mag bodies are available, sort of, Armalite has rebuild kits for the AR-10. If I remember right they were $29.95 and had everything but the floorplate. May well work in your M1A since they are the same mag. I have the M1A but no AR-10 and I don't remember if the Armalite folks were cuting off the tab on the back of the mag body. I am currently out of the country, could someone look into that ??

By the way A.Rex, they should make good targets, just keep them so you can show the ATF that you didn't just make post ban full capacity mags, just in case.

Yea, I know I shoulda asked...

Which ones from Coles did you buy? I have never bought anything from them. Are they a good company to buy from?

very good.

I bought the lowest end mags they had. They look great and work great. Highly recommend and I know just about everyone else would too.

lonegunman,

The M-14 mags that Coles sells are genuine USGI mags. They are ALL good, even the used ones.

Most of the aftermarket M14 mags are crap. The exception to that being the Thermolds. I have 5 of them. The back side of the right feed lip needs just a "tweak" with a file or dremel stone to free up rubbing on the bolt, but once this is done they work perfectly.

Also, not to rub salt in an open wound, but yesterday I went into a local big pawn & gunshop that is going out of business as of December 31. Asked the owner about the big drawer of AR mags I knew he had stashed back behind the counter. He pulled it out and set it on the counter. As I picked through it I found one excellent USGI M14 mag marked $29.00. I asked him if he had any more of those maybe in one of those OTHER drawers?? He rummages around a minute or two and comes back with 3 more... all marked $29.00, as well as a handful of USA mags marked $25. Of the 4 USGI's, one is slightly used and has some rusty spots due to neglect, 2 are excellent-new, and one is still in the factory wrapper. Even at $29.00 I would have bought these as that is a good price. I walked "out the door" with all 4 for $90.00, tax included.

FINALLY !!! I get one of those "good deals" that some guys seem to luck into... :)

The only way to go is GI. The notable exception is the Chicom mags. They are built like the real deal. Unfortunately, they sell for as much or more than GI right now(Damn ban on Chinese firearms related items).

Coles currently has the best prices on GI mags.

Good Luck!!
