Bought AR--Keep me from Buyer's Remorse

OK, after all my research & planning, looking for a used, low-end pre-ban rifle:

I went to the SAXET show in San Antonio today and bought: a NIB Colt Match HBAR. 20" bbl (1:7 twist), A2 furniture, no bayonet lug, rifle is clean and, to my untrained eye, unfired. The trigger seems very crisp.

I paid $1,525 + tax, OTD for $1,645. After being tempted by a used A1 for $1,200, I figured I'd end up wanting the A2 anyway. I know I didn't necessarily get a bargain, but did I pay a fair price? This seems ballpark with many used rifles I've seen advertised, but I'm trying to mentally justify the outlay.

Please tell me I didn't get hosed!

P.S. I'm really impressed and now understand some of the mystique. The rifle balances and points very well for me, and I like the setup. Hopefully I'll shoot it tomorrow...

If you are happy with it then stay happy! You will undoubtebly have people tell you you could have got a better deal elswhere. Do not let them spoil this experience for you. I had a colt AR 15 years ago and sold it, I have regreted that decision ever since. They are the most fun gun to shoot I have ever owned and nothing looks like an AR. Congratulations, Have Fun!

We have a show this weekend. For this area, that's a reasonable price. Not a steal, and not as much as some are asking.

Essentially, since it's a "pre-ban" rifle, it means you can legally have a flash hider on it, and may legally add any upper that fits the Colt (i.e., non-standard) pins. For this you paid about $700 extra. Only you can decide if it's worth the extra $$$. Because it's a Colt, it may have a steel block in the lower receiver which makes changing to certain after market trigger components difficult.

On the plus side, the Colt HBAR's I've seen tend to be good shooters.

That's running a little cheaper than most of the prices I've seen lately.
Save the buyer's remorse for your next car.

Your mind is your primary weapon.
USE IT!

Not that I'd ever buy a pre-ban, but why doesn't yours have a bayonet lug?? It does have a theaded barrel, doesn't it??

SA Scott: Buyer's remorse is a whole heck of a lot better than seller's remorse. I had an AR-15 but sold it to finance a bolt rifle set-up. I live in Kalifornia so now I can't buy another AR-15. That really hurts!

Thanks for the reassurance, guys.

WalterGAII:

As I understand it, this was one of the Sporter models which Colt manufactured politically correct: no bayonet lug, and a 20rd magazine pinned to 5rd. Supposedly I can legally install the bayonet lug...??

Can't shoot it today (rain) but I cant wait!

if the gun is a SAW then it can aquire all the parts that give Sara Brady the shakes

If it is a semi auto that accepts a detachable magazine and it has a pistol grop and one more evil part, you are good to go with adding a new sightbase with a bayonet lug.

A threaded barrel end is the part i look for
a collapsable stock is another.

In this legal definition a SAW is not a squad automatic weapon, its a semiauto assault weapon.

Just buy an Acre of Land in Kingman Arizona, get an Arizona drivers License and do what you want ;)

You can also claim you lost your Kalifornia license afterward and have both in your wallet ;)

SA Scott, I've got the exact same rifle, a blue label, except that I bought mine years ago. They came without the bayo lug on them. Some, mine included, also had the block in place to prevent adding a DIAS. They are very accurate weapons. You can drill the rivet out of the floorplate, and remove the spacer, to convert your mag to 20 rounds. Personally, I'd leave them alone and just purchase the 20 or 30 round mags that you want. Enjoy your new weapon. SamC

As far as what you paid for your AR, look at it this way: They are not making any more pre-ban rifles. The only thing that your rifle can do is go up in value.
