Bought an old Sig P220 today

I always wanted a Sig Sauer. Found this nice .45 at our neighborhood gun shop. Proof mark is "JF" which I believe shows 1985 as the date of manufacture. Imported by Tysons Corner-VA. Test target still in plastic, extra mag unused. The gun shows very little use, no holster wear. Made in West Germany. Took it out and shot a few mags, great accuracy. Yes, I am happy.

Nice old P220. You need to start your mag search. They are pricey... ;)

Yea, I forgot about that. Might have to live with 2 mags for a while. My guess is i cant get the old style mags from Sig?

No but you got a gem so who cares. I have passed on beaters over the years because of the mags but the one you bought is a beauty.

I didn't think about the mag situation when I bought it, lucky it came with two, I can live with that. This was one of very few German made Sig's I came across that was in brand new condition and wasn't priced at a ridiculously high price, it will make a nice woods gun.

Browning BDA 45

I bought this new in 1980.
Gun is 100% original and other than the slight finish wear, flawless.

its the only non 1911 pattern .45acp I own, or want. And, its done well enough that I have never wanted to replace it with the newer version Sig, either. Although, at one time I was considering the later "American" version, because I was playing games where the side button mag release mattered.

I don't play those games anymore, and am still very happy with my BDA (Sig P220)

I don't know for sure about yours, but mine works just FINE with the later Sig mags (the side button ones). Just don't get the ones with a "bumper" pad on the baseplate. Plain base 220 American mags work just fine with the heel clip for me.

FWIW the price in 1980 was $369. Some of the best money I ever spent!
:D

I remember those Browning Double Actions when they came out. You have a nice one. I personally like the euro mag release on this gun, makes it more of an original, at least in my mind. Thank for the info on the mags, I have two new ones right now, so I have time to look around. Also:drobs I paid $600. It was more than I wanted to fork over, but after taking off the slide and looking at the rails and barrel, the weapon "appeared "to be un-fired, except for the test target. At the most the previous owner may have put a box though it, but there was zero wear on it. The barrel to slide fit on this weapon is unreal. Here is a shot of my first two mags at 20 yards.(about 2 inch) Overall, after hitting the range with it I am very happy with the purchase.

I have both W.German and Exeter P220s. The Sig fan boys are right, a German Sig is the classic, inescapably SIG Sig. Congrats!!

Very nice! I stumbled on a 1989 W. German P220 a few years ago in a local shop, and it is still one of my favorite .45s. I'm sure you'll feel that way about yours.

Definitely love the new sig...the alloy frame really gives it a nice feel. Of course the temptation is there to stash it in my safe and keep it pristine, BUT...I not much of a collector and like to lug around a .45 in the woods. This will replace my 1911 for the near future. This weapon was part of an estate sale that included 2 German PPk's .380 and .32 cal. in boxes with paper work, and a absolutely beautiful Interarms P-38 (1970's) that looked unfired. The other Sig was a 9mm (226?) that had some holster wear and he wanted $600 for that one also. He thought that there would be a little less interest in the 220 due to the euro mag release. I traded in an old Ak-47 clone for it that was not being used plus a $100 so I got a very good deal on it. Happy shooting and Merry Christmas to you all.
