Bought an old Dan Wesson...

Went into my local shop today and they had actually marked down a gun (this NEVER happens) - it was an old Dan Wesson that I had looked at before, but $279 was too much. They had it marked down to $199. It came with the 2.5", 4" and 6" barrels and 3 grips. It is the older style (does not have exposed barrel nut) but the barrel shroud curves down in front of the crane. I think it is either a model 14 or 15 Target - it has nice adjustable sights. Anyway, I don't get to pick it up for a week, but I will let everyone know how it shoots soon. Thinking of getting my carry permit, just so I can pick up handguns on the same day as purchase. I really don't feel the need to carry, but it would be nice to buy something and pick it up the same day, especially if I found something I just had to have while travelling or at a gun show. Anyway, 7 days left and I will have another toy. The action seemed REALLY smooth from playing with it in the store.

Great gun at a great price. Congrats!!

I've had one very similar for years and just gave it away last weekend to my brother. I guessing he'll get many more years of service out of it.

Good Luck...

Great deal on a great revolver.

Good luck with it and let us know how it shoots. Problem with Dan Wesson .357's, once you have one, you need a Model 44/744 to keep it company.
Take Care

I have owned at least 1 Dan Wesson (at one time as many as 3) since I turned 18, over 14 years ago...

ALWAYS kept a 15-2V or 15-2HV on hand...

the V is for Vent Rib, and the H is for the heavy "full length under-lug" as you describe yours, you have the half-length underlug...

FINE weapons... you'll really enjoy it, I bet!

SMOOTH is Daniel Wesson's middle name... and his style of action-building... and you got yours for an EXCELLENT price!

Congratulations on your new Dan Wesson! :D

Mine is twenty-six years old, and still looks like new after countless thousands of rounds, including many that shook dust out of the rafters over the firing line! :)

It's still one of my most accurate revolvers, and several of the people that I've taught to shoot, favor the DW over all the other revolvers and autos that I let them try. Must be a reason for that.

Hope to get out to Paul Bunyan again this week, and think I'll take my trusty DW along, just to remind myself that the gun is still more accurate than it's shooter! :D

Enjoy-

Makarov, as others have stated "you did excellent". This
sounds as if it were part of the ole' "Pistol Pack" that Dan
Wesson firearms once had. And at $199, you definitely
found a bargain.:D  :)

Good Deal!

I paid $190 for this 4"VH (sans Hogue grip) This piece came from the old Monson, Ma. factory, before it moved to Palmer, Ma. and ultimately to Norwich, NY.

Mine has a similar grip and is marked Monson, but the barrel is a half lug and the shroud seems to hold the crane in place. Also the rear sight on mine is quite large, probably 3/4 inch long. Glad to hear I got a good deal. I passed on the Python they had there a for quite a while. It was $399. Probably a good deal, but $200 is much more affordable for me right now. Can't wait to try it out with each of the barrels. Kind of like getting three guns at once!
